Having a balanced life...that is a great desire of mine and a goal I always seem to be working toward. A time and place for all things.Plus the strength and wisdom to make good accomplishments. The endurance to persevere toward my goals,most of all ..Pleasing my Lord in all things. Many times I seem to sabotage myself by being slack in what should come first. Procrastination is a huge fault of mine....Putting off till tomorrow what can be done today. In the famous words of Scarlett O'Hara ....

"Well I won't think about this now. I'll think about it tomorrow." After all...tomorrow is another day."

I too could have penned those words in the lines of history...smile. I do know in my heart of hearts what comes first!God is my first answer to that question. Then family,friends,so on and so on.... Within each of those categories comes duties and responsibilities. Its not that I don't have enough time because,if anything I most likely have more time than I need on my hands! Most days I have no one to care for but,myself and my pets. And a hard fact is (I am being perfectly honest here)...I don't seem to think self is that important. I know that is wrong and I shouldn't feel that way. I am constantly working and praying to think differently about that,about myself! I continue to sabotage myself by choices I make each and everyday. What I eat,how I spend my time,not living up to my full potential each and everyday. I could do much better for self,there by becoming a greater essential benefit to God,his kingdom,to others and to self. There are some bad habits I must set aside and some good habits I must pick up.....

JUST TO NAME A FEW.........

3.(NOT REDEEMING MY TIME WISELY)

Hope your weekend was lovely....its cold and raining here this morning after sleet over night. Thought I would share these sweet images with you...I especially like the one of the kitty playing in the sewing basket....Not so cute Friday though when I came back home from town and found that my Boston Terrier Duke had been playing in my bag of yarn and had it strewed out all over the living room floor.
Guess he had a fun time...but,mama wasn't happy..smile.

We had a lovely Valentine Banquet at church last evening. Such good food....and fun fellowship. I want to wish all you dear friends a most wonderful loving Valentines day.....I hope you receive much care from loved ones and friends.

Well,last night while sitting cozy in my home...the fire in the stove slowly went out...What? I said...I just put 100 gallons of propane in the tank..surly it isn't empty...I asked son #1 to go check for me and sure enough,it was empty. Guess,it was longer than I thought since the last time the propane man paid me a visit..smile.
As it turned out it was OK sleeping under the covers overnight but,there blew in a cold front and it felt frigid this morning. My son is like his mama and knows how to make do. He went out back and brought in his outdoor fish fryer that has a small 5 gallon tank attached. Not,only did it heat my humble home quickly but,he cooked our breakfast on it too. As they say "Where there is a will,there is a way".

Now,I have a pot of Chicken stew cooking in the crock-pot for our dinner.The sun is shining but,45 will be the high today and 29 the low tonight. I will certainly be getting in touch with the propane man first thing Monday morning.

Maybe you have read this sweet little book "We Help Mommy " to your children when they were small. Are perhaps your children are still little ones. If that is the case...I recommend it. I read this to my children long ago but,now ...here we have.....

I have several grandchildren that are quite the "Little Helpers" but,not all..most would rather be doing other things...smile. It's best to train them while they are young when they enjoy such things as washing dishes,folding clothes,dusting,cleaning windows etc. My Jalyn,eight,can clean just as well as a grown up and is always a big help when she is here.

Yep..looks clean enough to me!

Of,course it's not all work..we do have our share of play time as well.....

Puttering results.........

I got a lot done yesterday as I puttered around my home. I dusted,clean all the glass,took down curtains and hung this blue valance I mentioned in my previous post.The one I found at Goodwill for only 1.99. I love it! I only wish there had been another set for the back window in my living room. I have shades hanging there now but, I will be on the look out for some other curtains or what have you to coordinate with these...I know how to "Make Do"...smile.I did more things I had put off,like organizing the pantry cabinet,etc. I put in a full day...slowly but,surly! The lamp I actually got to go in my bedroom but,decided I would like it better in the living room area for now. I purchased it a while back with the shade which was an off white...I knew I would paint it black and did so yesterday. I like how it looks now much better than before.

It was fun but,I was in very much pain...so much so,I was almost brought to tears by late evening. I get so very discouraged because I enjoy this sort of thing very much but,my body is so uncooperative. Another reason I am trying to simplify my life more. Less stuff...less to manage. I also gathered all my teddy bears and picked four of my favorites...the rest are not staying. I am going to limit myself to four in any collection I decide to have,except maybe my books..smile. One day I am going to get there...to my comfortable place...smile.

Today the plan is to do some puttering around my home. Clean, organizing a bit...moving things around,just make things homey. I picked up a pretty blue valance at Goodwill on Saturday that I am going to hang in the front window of my living room.(blue is becoming a favorite color of mine).I plan to create just a small Valentine display. As I said ..Putter! One of my favorite things to do but, haven't been in the mood to do it in a while. To Putter means to ..busy or occupy oneself in a leisurely,causal manner.,to move or go about slowly.....I am quite the turtle these days...slowly ..very slowly ...smile.

Early morning thoughts.....

Four A.M..........
That's what time I awoke this morning! After sitting on the side of my bed...praying and reading scripture. I decided to get up and head down my little hallway to the kitchen. I love being up before the daylight.I guess for one reason,it brings back memories of those times of getting up early seeing my children off to school. We lived almost 20 miles from their school at one point and they would be on the bus and on their way by 6:00. But,another reason I love early morning hours is the quite. It is still absolute quite here at 4:00 in the morning,other than the crow of a rooster. I lit candles over my kitchen table,the light moved through the little room softly.I love candle light in the early morning hours.Later there comes sounds of my coffee pot brewing...maybe,a few cars beginning to pass...on their way to and fro.Then just a bit later...just before dawn...A choir of birds began their morning chorus. A perfect beginning...to a beautiful day.
But...........
Last night it stormed long and hard....lots of thunder and lighting....the rain poured down...pounding the old metal roof...Funny but,it brought a huge sense of peace to me and also,the thought that ..."Sometimes God calms the Storm...And Sometimes he calms his Child".
I truly had a great sense of peace and calm as I lay in my bed,in the dark and listened to the sound of the thunder as I watched the lighting flash across the walls of my bedroom.I don't ever remember having such a peace in the mist of such a raging storm. But,it felt wonderful and made me believe that maybe,I truly am learning to trust the Lord more....My beloved is always near...taking care to keep me safe through any storm that invades my territory...within or without! In the natural or the supernatural! All is well.... I truly have no reason to fear.....I will both lay me down in peace and sleep for thou,Lord,only makest me dwell in safety

This is me...I am fearfully and wonderfully made in his image.....Thank you dear friends....I am ashamed of myself for thinking badly of me. I am not and never shall be perfect...not my body,not my home,not my life. Not in this life but,in the next ..the life eternal I received through the blood Jesus shed on the cross for me....I shall be. In this life I will continue to let him work on me. May I glorify him in all I do and all I say. I will do my best NOT to think or say anything bad of myself...because in doing so he is not glorified nor,is he pleased.
My desire is to serve him in a way which is balanced and pleasing to him. Being led by his Holy Spirit in ALL areas of my life.

Me...Myself and I.......Oh my!

Well,I took pictures of my bedroom in its disarray and intended on posting them today to give you an idea of the reality from yesterdays post . But,alas my heart was not brave enough.....I thought for sure and for certain you would have a whole other impression of me if I were to reveal the truth. But,I will keep them as to maybe share a before and after set of photos for a future posting. Sometimes the truth is ugly. Oh,by now you must be thinking she is truly a very bad housekeeper.....I guess that would just be your opinion(or not,) if I were to post those pictures. You see I am my worst enemy at times...I tend to think less of myself than others truly see me. I am trying my best to overcome such feelings while trying also to realize at the same time that everyone will always have their own opinion of this or that and usually their opinions have nothing to do with me and everything to do with that individual. How we see things is sometimes so totally different as to how someone else may see the the same thing. It is all in the eye of the beholder,as it is said. Have you ever had a visitor stop by unexpected and right off the bat you begin apologizing for the mess your house is in? Only to have them look around and comment how wonderful everything looks......I do this all the time. I often honestly live in fear that maybe someone will drop by and find me still lingering in night clothes,dishes left in the dish to wash or God forbid I be laid up in bed in the middle of the day. This would be an occasion for me to think bad of myself for several days or weeks. Remember I am being honest here.......I have said over and over to you all that I am so content as to how God has blessed me but,if that is the truth than why do I feel so uncomfortable when someone comes to my home for the very first time and sees the ugly exterior of my old mobile home....the chippy paint,the uneven steps or the worn carpet and linoleum inside on the floor. Yet,when I lay down at night I can truly say....I AM CONTENT! So those feelings are not that I am not content with my blessings but,it is that ever feeling of dread of what others think. That my friend is what I need help from the Lord with. I do linger through the day at times in my night clothes......Very often I lay down and nap in the day time. Some days I clean house and some days I don't. I don't always feel good,most days I am in pain...I don't have children at home. They are all grown now,I don't have a husband to wait on are cook for etc.......so what if I choose to clean are not clean on a given day. Is that OK? Am I asking your opinion,yes! Do I care about your opinion,yes! The real question is...Should I? Any thoughts?
I feel just a bit braver after sharing this post so,I will reveal just a bit of my mess.

I started off this post in mind to show you pictures of the multitude of STUFF I have weeded over the last year but,it seems that I deleted most or actually all of the pictures of that stuff. Guess,I truly wanted to be rid of it. I do know this picture below was a beginning...I filled up tub fulls from inside the house....cleared a whole shed of boxes and more tubs of stuff. And some things I simply packed away because I wasn't ready to release those..."some things" :)
But,now I feel like I am ready. So,I will be sorting through those tubs soon. I make it sounds as though I am a true hoarder but,truly that isn't the case....as I don't even come close to what the picture above depicts but,I do feel like what that picture depicts at times. Like the stuff I do possess is trying to possess me. Possess my time,my energy(which is very little). So,usually I just turn my head and say.. I will find some time to deal with that pile tomorrow. Most of the pile ends up in my bedroom which is the last place I truly want or need it. Because as I have stated before that one room is to be my resting place,my sanctuary (so the speak).
A place to rest my body and mind,to communicate with my Heavenly Father. To read and study his word. A library to read my favorite books and magazines. I will continue to do my best to make it so. So,I begin again,a fresh on the weeding process...this time trying to remember to record in pictures so,I can share just how serious I am...smile.

Speaking of Bedrooms...I think I could feel pretty much at home and at peace really well in any of these choices from Google images.

I tried so hard to resist her...picked her up,carried her around..then put her back down. Then my dear shopping buddy,Betty... discovered her on the shelf. Brought her over to show me...Shelley,this just looks like something that would fit right in place at your home,isn't she cute? I know...I know.... Well,the sweet little thing promised to be really good,not take up much room and her price was around a quarter so,here she is. How could I refuse? Ain't she sweet?

This means something else is leaving here..a quite a bit of something too. Yes,I am still in the mood to weed. I wish some of you lived closer...I could really load you up with stuff. For real ....as the kids say...smile.

Fresh Eggs and more Homemade Laundry Soap

Fresh eggs from my neighbor daughters hens..thank you girls. She only has three but,they are doing a wonderful job...smile.

Well my day went just as predicted yesterday..very peaceful with little unsettling. Right as rain... I guess you could say. Speaking of rain...we are getting it...lots of it. I am not complaining.....the sight and sound of it is a blessed thing to me. My son asked why can't it only rain at night while your sleeping and the sun shine during the day everyday. I told him..Well,son we don't live in a perfect world. You take what you get and make the best of it. I can only think back to the horrible,very hot,very dry summer we had last and Thank God for the rain we are getting now. Our near by lake is still so down it only looks like a river flowing through much dry land...not much expanse for a lake. This rain we are getting now will prove to be a much needed blessing indeed. I for one love hibernating under my old metal roof and listening to the thump.. thump.. thump of the falling rain.

After almost seven months...it was time to make a new batch of laundry soap....using just two-three tablespoons it lasted that long. Instead of the Zote...I used Fels this time. There wasn't any Zote on the shelf. I wasn't sure how I would like it but,its proving to work just as well and the yellow is a nice change from pink. Like color makes a difference but,it can to the eye I guess...smile.

That's it...everything you see above...Mix all the box ingredients in a plastic tub or any other container you wish....stir it together for a good mix and then grate the soap into it and mix some more.
Its easy and simple.....and works wonderful. I know I have shared this before but,I had some newcomers asking for the recipe. If you have a large family just double your recipe to make twice as much. If you have children they will love helping you. My granddaughter Jalyn loves to help grate the soap but,she wasn't able to get in on the fun this time. I missed her help because my hands aren't as handy as they used to be.

I think today should be a quiet day for me....Not much stirring. Maybe just a load of laundry,some cooking and washing dishes. Other than that a nap,some crocheting and reading. Peaceful... sounds like the word for this day to me........
But,it's hard to plan such a day when we just never know the outcome....We can plan and then TRUST.
I think that is what I will do.

How was your weekend? I had a wonderful one with a visit to my parents on Saturday and a blessed Lord's day yesterday. We had a visiting preacher and did he ever preach the truth. You won't hear many sermons like his in this day and time but,I for one appreciated his obedience to God very much. Some of the things he preached on were the very things God has been speaking to me about for months now.

It was so great to get some confirmation on how I am being directed by the Holy Spirit.

I just wanted to wish you all a wonderful week and share some random pictures with you from my home. The picture above is of a sweet angel my grandson Austin gave me yesterday. All the other things have been around for a while and managed to stay through all my weeding process....smile

Tasha Tudor Museum

Got this in the mailbox today. I wasn't expecting it so,it was a great surprise...I admire Tasha Tudor's lifestyle so much...and it lives on in some of her children,grandchildren and so many other admirers. Her life was very unique and special. I would love to one day be able to visit the Tasha Tudor Museum.

But,for now this wonderful little newsletter will do to suit my fancy.

I knew very little of Tasha until just a few years before her passing. I must of read some of her books as a child though because her illustrations are very familiar to me.

I am guessing the reason I received this newsletter is because I have ordered from the Tasha Tudor website before ...Some sweet little refrigerator magnets for my daughter Regina's last birthday...I shared them in a post that you may recall. They made a real sweet gift and she just loved them.

Who wouldn't love anything Tasha Tudor?

I also wanted to share this picture of my son and his horse. He loaded him up this morning and we went for a visit to my parents home. This horse does some fancy stepping and my mama and daddy had a time watching him put on a show for us... my brother and his family were there visiting too and the kids got a ride with my son leading the horse. Its been a good day...I hope yours was too...Blessings

Lead by the Holy Spirit......

I awoke at 3:00 a.m. this morning,again! I was awake for an hour and a half praying,singing,writing in my prayer journal and reading God's word. This is something that is quite constant in my life....I spend most of my prayer time and bible reading in the wee hours of the night......my bedroom is my Prayer Closet..if you will. It is where I truly get alone with God.....I have experienced some very spiritual times alone...just me and my Heavenly Father. In the past I have shared some of those times and the awesomeness of how God moved ,just to be looked down upon,even by some who profess to be spiritually minded, told that God doesn't work in such ways....Who is to say how are how not God chooses to work in an individuals prayer life. So,now I choose to keep some of his ways locked in my heart....Ever so careful what I share and with whom I share. If God chooses to lift my spirit from my body and take me to heaven and back.....Not,that he has done such but,if he chose to....HE COULD....and I would be all the more blessed for it. But,I think I should keep it to myself...Some would believe and understand...others would think me crazy or unbalanced.
I am very much in tuned with God's Holy Spirit......I can feel him guiding me,directing me,warning me in every area of my life....He teaches me as I read the word...he enlightens me to the understanding,the truth. He gives me gifts to use and boldness to speak when he says speak and not to speak when he says ...Keep quite!
My greatest desire is that my mind and the mind of Christ become one. That I conquer my will and the lust of my flesh and became like Christ. That I decease and Christ increase in me. My body is his temple.....I desire to live a life worthy of that fact and show forth his glory. His will...not mine be done......Amen

Today I want to Welcome a newcomer to blogging. Her name is Heidi and she is a young friend of mine. She is an avid treasure seeker and is out and about just about every weekend hunting down yard sales,etc.
Her home is filled with many wonderful finds and collections. This is just a bit of what she will be sharing on her new blog (In My own Little World) ,which you can go visit here . Be sure and follow her because I know you won't be disappointed in what she has to share. She is very sweet and has a big heart..I am sure you will learn to love her as I do. She is close to the age of my eldest daughter and actually played with my kids some when they were children...in the same neighborhood for a while. This is another project I did recently....an old Christmas electric candle turned into a primitive flicker candle....It was originally an off white color...I wrapped the top part of it in brown flora tape,then wrapped jute twine around it. I also painted the base black and added a flicker bulb.

I thought my camera may take better pictures outside...we are having a cool day here in East Texas with a strong breeze....rather like March winds. Blessings to all.........

The Lord's Day

Sunday to me....is a day set aside for the coming together of my church family.....singing and worshiping together ....receiving the word of God as our Shepherd is lead by the Holy Spirit to preach. Honoring God and glorifying him in all we do......A day of rest from work and toil....often a day after services,to visit friends or loved ones....or maybe just a long restful nap....Then back to a evening service...(something many churches have chose to discontinue).

That is what my Sundays are like.......The Lord's Day. Although I do realize each and everyday is the Lord's and we are to live each day to glorify him. Since the church began...it was this day that was set aside.

And upon the first day of the week,when the disciples came together,Paul preached to them,Acts 20:7

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together,as the manner of some is;but exhorting one another: and so much more as ye see the day approaching. Hebrews 10:25

I do see that day approaching...Now,more so than ever..........

I am a reader.....not of all books....some books I wouldn't even take in my hands.....but,other books are like windows for me....they teach me, encourage me,take me places I have never been.

I wish I had a room full of books,tucked away somewhere ...my own private library of sorts.

I no longer watch T.V. so,I have much more time to read. There was a time when I didn't have much freedom to do the things I really enjoyed but,now I do.

I think I could spend hours in such a room...flipping through pages and pages of wonderful books...old books are my favorite to handle. I love the feel of them,the way they smell...am I strange? Smile...

For now..my bedroom is my study,library,kind of sanctuary for me. I almost always have to be alone when reading or studying because I am very easily distracted.

Of course,my precious Bible will always be the most endearing and profitable book I will ever read or study. It is the book of all books...and always will be! The very true and living word of God.

I have been so tired lately,little energy and sleepy much of the time.....also,very short of breathe....If I go to the doctor I know ahead of time what they will tell me....Its all the extra weight...and it very well might be. I can see how so much weight could make me have all these symptoms and more. Along with my other health issues...I rarely feel good anymore. Once in a while...I have a really wonderful day and for those days I am very grateful...not that I am not grateful for everyday,because I truly am...I just appreciate some more than others.
Today,I think I could have stayed in bed,but,I don't allow myself to do that. Now,it is 6:00 p.m. and I am just stalling for another hour or so then I am going to hit the sack....and I will probably hit it hard too :)
I am working on another crochet project and reading a lot at night after I lay down. I hope to get the tree down and the rest of my Christmas decor put away in the next day or two....I don't remember ever having left the tree up this long. I think I am now ready for it all to be put away for another year. I am thinking of working on some Valentine projects too ....just haven't decided exactly what yet. I decided to watch The Passion of the Christ on a VHS tape today...after telling myself I wouldn't ever watch it again. I know why this was only my second time to watch it...its just to painful to endure....my jaws were hurting because I gritted my teeth so much and not to mention all the crying it brought on. I know it is just a movie but,I cry at other movies based on true stories.....and The Passion of the Christ is based upon the truest of truest stories.
In reality.....the suffering of Jesus was most likely more severe than even that movie portrayed. And yet he prayed..Father forgive them for they know not what they do.....What a lesson in forgiveness...I so want to strive to be more like Jesus...in every way. I must decrease...so that he may increase! More praying...more studying his word. When we draw nigh to God...he draws nigh unto us. James 4:8

I am in a bit of a family crisis at this time and I am actually handling it very well....that shows me I am learning to trust God more....I am also learning that I can't fix everything...Only God can fix some things and I am stepping aside and letting him work....while I pray,trust and wait for the outcome. If the outcome isn't what I wanted ,then I will trust him anyway...that he knows best....not I! It feels good not to be emotionally falling about constantly over every big and little thing that goes wrong in my life or the lives of my loved ones.
Remember though...he is still working on me.

I wanted to share with you all these vintage tins I found while at the White Elephant shop...I already this one in the first picture. They are great for storing things in....plus they are pretty to look at....I want more functional things in my home.

I see I left the price sticker on that little white pitcher. I had tried to sell it and didn't so I decided to bring it back into the house...but,forgot to take off my tag :) Didn't see it until I posted this picture.....I need new eye glasses! Don't ya think?

We are his people and the sheep of his pasture.

I hate when I feel frazzled and unsure of myself....to many wanderings going on in my mind.....to much stuff still in my possession. I visit other blogs...beautiful blogs,cute fun blogs...so much talent...so many different styles of decorating.....I find myself wanting to change my home...to make it look like those other homes. I must remember I am being guided toward a life of simplicity,I am being guided by the Holy Spirit to be what God wills for me at this time in my life. To keep myself focused on him....to keep my mind and my life,in general, uncluttered...focusing on the what is,what can be and not on the what could have been! I still have much work to do( inside and out )but,I can testify I have gained so much ground over this past year.....I will continue to work on the outside and inside...ridding,weeding until I feel like I am where I need to be...where I am supposed to be. That could take the rest of my life...but,as long as I am on track then I am doing well. One day I hope to know in my heart that I made the right move,the right choices....to free myself of extra baggage..spiritually,physically and emotionally. When I get it right on the inside...it will be so evident on the outside...of that I am certain. God has already worked it all out for me...I just need to get on board and follow his plan....Trust and Obey!

Don't worry I will continue to visit your blogs,other blogs...I love seeing what is different in your homes,in your lives....reading the wisdom you share,what works and doesn't work for you...but,still I must remember that that is your home,your life and what is meant for others is not always what is meant for me. I have my own walk.....God is leading me.....I will do my best to listen to that still small voice...when he says walk this way...I will do my best to trust and obey! I have always had a problem with wanting to please people...what they think has a big impact on what I think of myself. I am trying to overcome that thought pattern and have to a certain point. I now realize that it doesn't really matter what others think as long as I am doing what is right in the eyes of my Savior....What I know is right in my heart. So,I don't need to keep up are follow other peoples ideas...None of us are perfect and never shall be as long as we are in these bodies.....But,we can follow the one who is...he will never lead us astray. I hope you get what I am trying to bring across in this post and I don't sound like I am babbling ...Oh,there I go...worrying what you are thinking about this post...see what I mean. But,at least I am recognizing what I am doing and trying to correct myself from thinking that way :)

I owned my own little shop here in our very small hometown.....Sometimes I miss it......it was a fun little place in a rented building which was once our Barber Shop....but,more fun for folks to look than buy....so,I had to close it and say goodbye :( My health was causing a issue in running it to. I have always wanted a doll shop and this one was full of dolls...I actually sold a quite a few dolls while I was in business. When I sold out...everything went for one money but,the dolls that were left came home with me.

Did you see anything that you liked? Its all gone....in the past! But,I do have a nice memory!

Five days till Christmas when all through the house...the greenery was strewn all about....there were berries in colors of red and blue.....Oh,and the greenery...there was Ceder and Holly..just to name a few. All ready and waiting for loved ones to come and view. All these are gifts from God's bountiful source ...waiting to grace your home this Christmas morn. Blue for the royalties Christ left above..red for the blood he shed in love. Green for life everlasting he brought....Our souls pass to heaven..was the plan that he wrought. Pine cones are prickly, like the thorns that marred his head....Oh,to think the path for our souls he did tread.
All these things remind me of God's love for all mankind...God gave his only son,send from Heaven... Alure...long ago on that very first Christmas morn.

With just a week away from Christmas day...I am starting to feel that old familiar sense of a bit of the blues...I love Christmas time so every much...I look forward to the season all year...with everything it brings....Well,not everything...but,the part that truly expresses the true meaning of the season....Peace on Earth...Goodwill to men! It does seem to me that more than any other time of the year there is an awareness of charity..goodwill...thinking of others more than oneself. Oh,I know to well the ugly part of it...the greed ...the pushing,shoving...get out of my way...I am here to spend and I don't have much time left to get it done... attitude. But,that does not take away from the true meaning and spirit of this most wonderful time of the year! Not for me anyway!

So,I intend to spend this last week before Christmas day ..relishing each minute. Pondering the gift God gave...the one and only way to heaven.....Jesus Christ..my Lord and Savior. He is first and foremost everyday of the year in my heart.....and I celebrate him 24 hours a day...7 days a week...but,at this time of the year...men and women all over this entire world come together with family and friends..in one mind and accord to lift him on high. His Birth...Death...and Resurrection...brought life everlasting to my soul...that my friend is something to be highly exalted...a wonderful reason to celebrate CHRISTmas.

My "Blue" Christmas gift......

Is this not the sweetest Teddy you have ever seen? OK, I know you Teddy Bear fans have your own special bear and yours must be the cutest ever to you but,Blue comes very close...right? While out and about with my friend....we stopped in the Hospice thrift shop and to our surprise it was 50% off day...they do that randomly from time to time. I asked to see Blue and a couple of other teddies that were behind the counter(that's where they keep all the special stuff) smile. The other two I could resist but,Blue was a keeper and for $2.50. How do I know her name is Blue.....Well,let me tell you...she still wears her makers tag stating her name is Blue and she was born on 7-23-07 and created by Bear artist Tammy Hendricks. On the back of her tag was the scripture

Anyway,I consider Blue a treasure find and a special Christmas gift from above.....Does that seem silly...maybe to some but,I don't see myself ever being able to afford a handmade artist Teddy Bear as they are usually quite expensive.... so,to me she was a gift. And a very nice one...smile.

Home is..............

This was a gift from a dear friend....my kitchen is small...my home is small. I live in a older mobile home(1969 Town and Country) some of you know that already as I have mentioned it in the past. It isn't in that good of shape and I keep making a joke that one day the walls are going to collapse around me :) I do pray that truly never happens but,there is just so much one can do to an old place after years of fixing up and repairing. Then of course there isn't funds for repairs any longer...but,still I am thankful for this humble abode...the roof doesn't leak,the walls keep the cold out and the heat from the propane stove in. I have a nice bed to lie down in and rest at night,food on my table ...in my opinion...Yes,life is good and home is a comfort! I know my home will accommodate me just fine until the good Lord sees fit to move me elsewhere. I am still on a list(two years next July)for goverment assisted housing....the nice apartment I got excited about and now have just put in God's hands...his timing isn't mine. He knows what is the right time for my move. And if there will even be a move :) When we first moved into this mobile home we gave it an overhaul,so to speak,...I asked the Lord to let this house hold up and keep a home for my family for the next ten years. Well,that has been 20 years ago. I cannot complain...God has gone above and beyond what I asked him. Everyone else has moved on and now I alone am left and still this home shelters me.....Thank you Father for the shelter and warmth of my home.

This small shelf wasn't always red..it used to be yellow and sat in my children's room when they were home...it stored all of their childhood books and other treasures as well. I still have some of those books put away. I gave this shelf to my oldest daughter and she used it in her twins room for years...she recently didn't have use for it anymore so it made a circle and came back to me :)

The Creamer and Sugar set on the top is a recent surprise gift I received in the mail from a sweet blog friend.
It was a very nice surprise indeed!

I am sure I have told you before but,in case...I love coming to your blog and visiting in your home...Yes,some of your homes are bigger and much nicer than mine and that is very OK....I love seeing your homes and how you decorate,etc.I don't wish to have what you have..Nor,do I feel envious...I am so happy for how the Lord blesses you and also very happy for how he chooses to bless me as well.
My home is quaint and decorated quite simply but,then again...so,am I....smile.

Home is...truly what we make it to be.....no matter how grand or humble...there is no place like home. Do you agree?

I picked up a few finds at Salvation Army yesterday....thought I would show them to you. The St. Nicholas above...is my favorite of what I am showing you today. He is quite heavy and is marked on the bottom "The Legend of Saint Nicholas" item no. 16774 Russ Berrie and Company.Inc. Oakland New Jersey.

Best Friends make the "Best Gifts"

A true friend is a wonderful gift indeed.....I am blessed with many friends...so thankful for each one!
But,some become more than just friends...some become kindred spirits.....you share many things in common....you understand one another and except one another for who you are. You listen and encourage,inspire one another to go on,even in the most difficult of times. Out of my many friends there are a few whom fit this bill in my mind. My friend Betty is one of these kindred spirits......We knew of one another for a good while and crossed paths from time to time in our daily lives but,never became true friends until about five years ago...I had a little shop here in town and she loved coming there to look and shop because much of what I had for sale there were the same kind of things she likes and collects. We began to talk and visit when she would come in and bonded to what has become a true friendship. At the time she didn't have transportation and I began picking her up when I would go into town for shopping,etc. Now,the shoe is on the other foot and I am the one without transportation and she is returning the favor :)
We have so much fun on our outings together! You already know about our picnics as I have shared them here on my blog with all of you. So,today on my blog....I am featuring my dear friend Betty......I just had to show you all this very sweet picture of Betty as a baby with her parents on a Christmas day...long ago.

Isn't it a wonderful picture? She tells me she remembers that little cape she is wearing and it was red. She has a memory like you wouldn't believe and has shared so many stories of her childhood with me. Lots of very good memories...what a treasure! And what a treasure of a friend Betty is to me! The White Elephant and the richest acre in the world....

A train was just approaching the depot.

I wanted to share with you all one of mine and my friend Betty's favorite thrift store.....it is located in this wonderful old Depot Station in Kilgore... just about 16 miles from our little town of Arp. We have to travel at least seven or more miles to even to buy our groceries! Our town only has a couple of convenient stores and the bare necessities such as a Post Office,fire department,City Hall,etc...Well,maybe you get the picture...when I say small...I mean small...smile. This shop is called the The White Elephant and is ran by the sweetest little ladies...I kinda like going...just to visit with them :) They are only open one day a week... Tuesday.
I love the atmosphere of the downtown area of this little city....it is quite like taking a step back in time.

During the Oil Boom this was known as the richest acre in the world.

The East Texas oilfield was discovered in 1930, and over the next couple years the city of Kilgore transformed from a sleepy rural village into a boomtown. At one point, there were approximately 1,200 oil wells inside the city - one at nearly every street corner.

And the densest population of those wells - the tighest concentration of oil wells in the world at that time - was in a half-block area of downtown that came to be known as the "World's Richest Acre."

The World's Richest Acre Park displays one original oil derrick and 30 more restored derricks that are the remnants of Kilgore's boomtown birth (all but one of the derricks in town was dismantled during the 1960s). Historical markers throughout the park tell the stories.

The World's Richest Acre Park is open yearround and is free to all. At Christmastime, the tops of the derricks within the park are decorated with lights. This information found here

A most Pleasant Lord's Day...........

Yesterday was full and busy...today started out the same way...up early to cook a cake for our Christmas fellowship after this mornings service. Which by the way was a traditional "Texas BBQ"...with smoked briskets,link sausage,potato salad,baked beans and the works. Plus lots of deserts. All the meat was prepared by my son in law Justin....whom is a great cook. It was a wonderful meal and a great time of fellowship! But,not till after a great Sunday morning worship and preaching of God's word. Must take care of the spiritual man first ...right?

Our Pastor recently shared a story about a man who had gotten saved...when being visited later by the man of God...he was asked how his Christian walk was coming along...he responded by saying...Well,it's kinda like two dogs fighting.....a part of me(spiritual man) is trying so hard to be like Jesus,to please him in all I do ...but,the other part of me(fleshly man)wants to fight to keep me on a path I don't want to follow.....Then being asked ..So which dog is wining the fight? The man replied...the one I feed the most! There is much truth in that story......We are in a constant battle ...but,when we stay in the word of God...praying always,listening always to obey the Commander in Chief of our soul,Jesus.....He will not lead us astray...he keeps us on the straight and narrow....he has already fought the battle for us....and ultimately leads us into life everlasting.

It is cooler and raining here today and is quickly passing to night fall...I will be settling down for the rest of the evening with a lap full of crochet...Its been a good week...tomorrow begins yet another ....drawing ever nigh unto Christmas day...enjoy each day and count yourself worthy of a most blessed life indeed!

Early in the morning....

I was up with the roosters this morning ...before daylight actually. I love the peacefulness of the early morning. The beginning of a new day..a new dawning in the days of my life. Which by the way seem to be passing faster and faster these days....a day turns into weeks...weeks into a month and then months into a year... in what seems like to me no time at all. It is amazing to me just how quickly they seem to pass. I have been thinking so much lately about my sweet kiddo's...maybe,because it is Christmas but,I miss those little ones so much sometimes.
Such is life though...we don't have our babies long until they are grown with children of their own. Just makes me want to stop and appreciate TODAY more...every minute ,every hour...every day!

This is a silent movie as my camera has no sound....Duke just had his bath and manicure...Now,he is feeling quite feisty and playful. Not bad for an old man of almost 91 years (13 dog years). Now,I need to find his jingle bell collar and he will be already for the holidays....this is one dog that truly enjoys Christmas...smile.

Little Black Sheep.....

Do you ever feel like a black sheep?(picture above) Not in a bad way but,just different from everybody else in the crowd. I do and I have for most of my life....Why,you may ask...I don't really know....I have just been different....I am different in personality and every other way from my own siblings....there are four years between my sister and I but,we have never been close which is sad to me...but we are different. As day and night almost...we love each other very much but,have none of the same interests. I never fit in at school either.....I was always the new kid and did make a few friends but,still I was different....and today,I still feel that way so very much. I am not comfortable in crowds....I am fine with people I know and love but,strangers are not so easy for me...I am always friendly and quick to say Hello...How are you? Etc....but,still I feel uncomfortable. I know I have issues and I pray and talk to God about them often...I have gotten much better over the past few years...if you notice I have been at least sharing more pictures of myself which was once a BIG no- no to me. I am growing and for that I am grateful. Anyway,this blog has been such a blessing and release for me...you girls mean more than you will ever know....I feel so much better knowing you are all out there.....you visit me and I too love visiting you. All are friends and kind souls but,some of you have become true kindred spirits. So,I just want to say Thank you...again. To all of you who visit,read and comment . Now,for a few more pictures.....I hope I haven't repeated any of them...smile.

OK,I am having to much fun sharing my decorating with you all...but,I can't help myself...I am feeling such joy in celebrating our dear Savior's birth.....not the shopping,little of that,not the hustle and bustle of it all,not even the lights and all the glint and glamour of it...just the soft glow of twinkling lights on the humble Christmas tree,candles lit,soft Christmas hymns playing and the mesmerizing wonder of Jesus, his virgin birth,his life and crucifixion and then rising to eternal life,his and ours (those who trust him), his perfect sacrifice for all mankind. The wonder of wonders. We,the redeemed,are the ones who truly celebrate Christmas...to everyone else..its just another holiday.

I took the advice of one of my readers and changed out the candy striped material tucked in the little crib and traded it for this white damask table cover. I think I like this better. Sorry my little chocolate Santa has his back to you...smile. That's a sweet stuffed kitty behind him.

I spent most of the day yesterday puttering around the house and decorating for Christmas. Last night I got sick at my stomach and was up for most of the night. Didn't know if I would make it for church this morning or not but,I did. Skipped Sunday School though. Things are just about done as far as my decorating except for maybe a little rearranging of sorts. I will share a few more pictures with you all....hope your Lord's day is a blessed one...thanks so much for stopping by today.

It's beginning to look just a bit like Christmas in my home. I had left out two tubs of decorations to put out for Christmas but,yesterday I went through those two tubs and packed another whole tub of stuffed away to be put back into storage. The tree is up with the help of my grandson Austin. Has the lights on it but,not the ornaments...those will come today,hopefully :)
I put the tree in this old doll crib for a base but,am not sure if I am liking it or not. I will live with it a bit longer today and see how it goes! I have a collection of vintage rubber faced Santa dolls but,just kept this one out to display this year. He is sweet and simple,don't ya think?

What do you think about this idea?

Thanksgiving Day was wonderful with almost all my children and grandchildren near...the food was yummy,the fellowship great but,now its behind,another one stored in the mind of memories.....and on to other things. Praying your Christmas Season will be all its meant to be.
I will be doing some housekeeping today. Being behind due to feeling yuck from a nasty head cold. I am now feeling better and can breath once again through my nose :)
After the work I will be putting up the Christmas tree and doing some more decorating as well. This is my most favorite time of year. I don't do the Black Friday thing at all! Not planning to spend much...I am still doing my best to keep the "Reason for the Season" my main focus. Still have lots of work to do on those handmade gifts. It's going to be a wonderful Christmas this year indeed.

I wanted to share our latest picnic with you all...this time I was the host and I made it very simple. I did lunch bags with fancy bottled water and the works. It was all stuff I picked up at the grocery store. It was a bit of a "Literary Picnic" ...I brought books to share as did Betty! Betty's daughter and DIL joined us again. I shared some scripture and Jamie(Betty's DIL) read some scripture as well. Then Betty shared her book with us. I thought it was a wonderful day. I love the fact that even grown ups used to read aloud to one another ...it's a comforting thing for me. These days T.V.'s and so many other technical gadgets take the place of such times.
I long for the more simpler ways and strive to acquire them.

A very blessed Lord's day.......

Today was a blessed day with two wonderful church services....I am not feeling real well and it was hard for me to get up and go this morning....but,we have a little saying going around our church...If God ain't first..then God ain't first...Plain and simple isn't it? Yet,so true....So,I dragged myself up out of bed and into the shower,then off to God's house. I am so glad I did too! We had one soul to come to the Lord this morning and several others rededicated. Tonight we had a missionary to Mexico speak to us...the power came down and met us...what a refreshing for my soul as well as many others. I now have a new assurance in my heart that God hears me when I pray and that I am in his will...not,that I didn't already know that but,getting confirmation straight from my Heavenly Father does my heart so good. And is so encouraging to me.
I know this week is going to be extra busy with the holiday preparations upon us. I pray you make it a time of enjoyment with family and friends. Let us be thankful to God for all things in our life.....

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you

More crafting and visiting......

Betty and I were up to our elbows in vintage Christmas balls for several hours yesterday creating wreaths for the church bazaar. We had fun chatting and visiting while we were busy...and had a break for a cup of tea and a snack.It was dark when Betty packed up to go home and we were both tired. My wreath is above in the picture and looking at it now...it seems it is going to need some more balls. I am also going to add a bow so that will really make it pop.

My little table is full and Betty is busy with her creating....these old balls were fun working with and just make one want to smile....Awe....Christmas Memories.....such a good thing to ponder.

Betty's neat Farm Chicks Christmas book...it is crock full of neat ideas and vintage goodness...so fun to browse through.

Another busy day today as we are off to another sale at the Ladies Auxiliary of Tyler..this is the Christmas sale...so much temptations...not to worry...I am set to be disciplined in my spending...as I don't have much to spend.....smile. Among my housekeeping yesterday....I took a while to do a little crafty projects....I made these primitive feather like trees for our bazaar. Thought I would share them with you all......hopefully they will sell. All the proceeds from the bazaar will go into our WM funds. I also have a stack of crocheted dishcloths to sell.....I didn't get near the projects done I had in mind to do. I have this problem about crafting....I feel like I need to have the house in order and everything just so...so before I can sit down and start crafting...Well,by the time I am done with all of that...I have no energy left to craft. Yesterday I just stopped what I was doing and went to crafting and did I make a mess....Spanish Moss...I love using it but,it is messy! Regina and I and a couple of other ladies from the church decorated our fellowship hall last night after bible study. We were there until really late and then when I got home I guess I was too wired to sleep....I might have gotten three hours of sleep last night. So,I am sure there is a nap in store for today...smile.

I am sitting here this morning on the computer having coffee and shortbread cookies...looking around at all the stuff ...I had my twin grandsons go up to the storage and pull out every last tub filled with Christmas decorations and the like. It was rather overwhelming for me as they brought down tub after tub....I had six to eight...didn't count them. Some of you may have way more and that may not seem like a lot to you but,to me...it is a lot...smile. I opened every tub and went through each one....I sorted,some to keep,some to go,and then left out the tubs that I will be using for decorating for Christmas. The point I am coming to...is that I am still feeling the need to weed. Get rid of....and yet,I still love going treasure hunting in the thrift stores...which is exactly what I did yesterday...I had an outing of my own with my friend Betty. I have however become so more disciplined as to what I buy.....even if I didn't make one purchase..I would still love going just for the look-see. We also did just a bit of grocery shopping and after getting home last evening...I was worn out and basically left bags sitting here and there. Now,I am trying to work all the kinks out of my body so I can get some housekeeping done. Story of my life...so to speak...smile. It is raining softly this morning(a wonderful thing) so my plan is the light a candle or two...play some Christmas music and straighten my house up...get things in a more organized manner so I can feel at ease. I look around and see I am going to need to pack things away and make room for the decorations....I don't plan to do near as much as I usually do though...still trying to keep it simple. But,I have so little room ...it is going to take some moving of this and that to get things as I want them. I am sure when all is said and done I will be comfortable and then can sit back enjoy the things I choose to decorate with and work on those handmade gifts. Now,I got that all off my chest...do I feel better...smile. Thanks for putting up with me. Oh,and I did bring home just a few things from my outing yesterday but,during that sorting process I gave one whole tub to my daughter Kathy...Regina came up and picked some things for herself and I also have a whole tub of things that I am donating to our Christmas Bazaar at the church on Saturday. So,I did really good... I think!

Today I want to share another one of my dolls with you all. I know I have shown her before at some point But,I think she is worthy of another time around...smile.
She is made by the Vogue Doll Co. and is a design by Eloise Wilkin. I believe her to be Baby Too Dear....meaning she would be Baby dear at the age of two. Her hair may have been cut at some point because I have seen other dolls like this with longer hair. Eloise Wilkin is my very favorite illustrator of Children's books. Her drawings always remind me of my children when they were little. I so enjoyed reading her books to my little ones. I still have those books pack away for safe keeping. Awe memories....smile.

Yesterday I tackled a job I have been meaning to do for sometime....I cleaned in my bedroom...got rid of all those nasty dust bunnies...flipped the mattresses on my bed and added fresh clean linens. Vintage pillow cases are a favorite thing of mine. I am always on the look out for them in the thrift stores,etc. This cute patchwork Scottie is an oldie I found at the sale I mentioned here.... If I remember correctly that is where I found him. The pillow case on the bottom came from there too. I also wanted to show you I dressed my baby I mentioned here. She looks much happier,don't you think? Although I decorate in a Country Prim style...I do still love a vintage fun look too and will always have some fun color here and there about in my home. I can't express how worn I was last night from all the housekeeping.....that bed felt so good when I fell off in it....smile.

After having a few days of warm, humid spring like weather...it has turned cool again....windy with leaves blowing in the wind. More like Autumn should be. A good day for a nice cup of afternoon tea.
Around the house.....I have been puttering today...moving things here and there...Guess,it could be a grown up way of playing...smile. I am just so thankful to even have a home to putter in.

These dolls are reminiscent of another time....when mothers used bits and pieces of old clothing,or scrapes of fabric to create dolls for their little ones. Sometimes the faces were painted on,sewn on or,sometimes there were no faces at all.

From the pages of The Country House Catalog..Christmas 2011

Sometimes when I browse through a wonderful catalog such as The Country House...I see so many lovely vignettes and get the urge to want to buy.....instead,I look around my home and find I have some of the same things,then try to make my own similar vignette with the things I already have here at home. When I saw this one above I thought it was just so nice. So,I have tried to recreate one similar.

I switched up blocks in a little metal wire cage for Dominoes in a box,a little bee hive tea set for the china and an antique picture of a baby sitting in a little chair for the silhouette of the children....I still like the one from the catalog better but,I think mine is nice too and I have it without being out more money...which is a good thing when one doesn't have a lot to start with....smile.

I also wanted to share these very old lace curtains. I have had them for a very long time packed away ...I even tried selling them at one point but,with no luck so,I hung on to them.....I pulled them out yesterday and hung them. Now,I will enjoy them for a while. One thing so neat about them is that they are handmade....not sure of the correct age of them but,very old for sure.

They are very delicate

One more little story for you...this baby doll is one that I thought I would give up while weeding through all my stuff last Spring....she went through a sale and didn't get a taker. We left out our stuff on tables,covered up thinking we would have another sale adding more stuff at a later date. The weather got to hot and it never happened...the stuffed stayed out there(I am ashamed to say )for quite a while. Along the way someone, probably one of the boys,decided this baby no longer needed her head...off it went and was thrown across the yard..Well,my heart couldn't take it...I had to collect her head and body and bring her back indoors where it is safe....smile. She has had a nice soaking bleach bath for now and will get clothes next.What an ordeal she had to endure...I am not a very good Dolly Mama! For Shame on me............

Thanksgiving Day 1987.

I am thankful for our family...as it was then and tis now....life wasn't and isn't perfect...but,God was always and will always be with us . Could I ask anymore? In the first picture...our family lived in a little house in the piney woods of East Texas....We were poor but,yet so... rich. The basket on the table is of fresh greenery,pine cones etc. I gathered from the woods around our home that very morning. Still remember it like it was yesterday. I thank God for the gift of memory......I try to remember the good over the bad but,count all a blessing as we were shaped and molded through every one by the hands of the great potter.
He continues to shape us each day into what we ought'a be!

A night out at the Antique Mall.....

Yesterday evening my daughter Regina,my friend Betty and I went to a favorite Antique Mall in Tyler for their Christmas Open House. It was a lovely time as everything was so festive,lots of wonderful refreshments with antiques and collectibles galore. I didn't buy a thing but,saw some sweet things that I would have loved to have brought home with me....these sweet dolls and baby things for one.

Isn't this tree just beautiful? That's my sweet girl checking out the very pretty ornaments..many of them handmade.

I thought this little child's kitchen cabinet was so cute.

Santa was everywhere...smile.

It was good to get out for the evening with two people I love being with ...family and good friends are such a blessing. I wasn't able to walk around and look at everything as much as I would have liked but,it was a fun time all the same.

This morning I got up thinking...Awe...November...Thanksgiving...Counting our blessings...Pumpkin Pie.....THEN... This came in the mail and got my mind thinking on (you got it)Christmas.
The most wonderful time of the year...or is it? It is after all,the day we celebrate our dear Savior's birth. Isn't that what it is all about? Peace On Earth,Goodwill to Men.....
As they say...That was the plan but,what has most of society turned it in to? That is so hard to answer for certainty...We know and understand all the commercialism that goes with it today.
BUY...BUY..BUY then buy some more! Toys will come off the shelves like hotcakes and be played with for less time than it will take to finish paying off the credit cards they were purchased with. Unless of course,you are one of the more fortunate ones who can pay cash on the spot. Most kids will get so much ,they won't be able to appreciate their things because they already have so much to begin with. When are we going to learn we can't take it with us.....This is just our temporary homes and everything we process at this minute is just that... temporary...Jesus came here to begin with to teach us a better way......to love others as we love ourselves...to lay up our treasures in heaven,where moth and rust can't corrupt. It's better to give than to receive. To forgive so that we ourselves may be forgiven.....To follow him,trust him as our Savior...to be an example..to be his witness. WOW...I don't even know why all that came out....I promise you I had no intention of typing all this...I started out just to share that lovely catalog with you all and post some pictures from it. I won't apologize for what I have mentioned though because I believe it to be the truth....

As I said before I am making most of my gifts this year....I also plan to keep my Christmas as simple as possible. I do think with all my heart ...it is the most wonderful time of the year...despite all the hustle,bustle and spending ...it is the celebration of our dear Lord Jesus.....Let us keep Christ in this Christmas.

Christmas at Plum Creek....Such a simpler time....I believe most people would truly love to have a more peaceful,calm Christmas...if they could just get past all the commercialism of it and focus on the true meaning. Notice the crocheted winter bonnets Mary and Laura wore in this episode...I made one for my youngest daughter when she was small and made her wear it to school...she hated it and hasn't forgotten I made her wear it..... I on the other hand was very proud of my project...smile.

OK,I know this is my second post for today but,I could't wait to show you how my caramel apples came out.....I could not have been more pleased with the caramel. It turned out just delicious .My daughter said her Caramel Apple was the best she had ever tasted.

With the caramel I had left over I added peanuts and made candy which taste very much like a Pay Day candy bar. Once its cooled enough I will slice it into bars.

Old Fashion Popcorn Balls

Today I am busy making goodies for for kiddos. I made the popcorn balls this morning,this time adding candy corn.

I usually wrap them in wax paper but,this time just put them in baggies. I think my batch turned out to be about 20. But,I did double the recipe below. My kids will be very excited to get these....I want to give them a little taste what Halloween treats used to be like. Maybe,when you and I were kids.....Cookies,popcorn balls,apples...lots of homemade goodies. It is certainly a different time we live in today. Our kids and grand kids miss so much of what we enjoyed as children. Sure they have lots we didn't have in the way of tech toys and such but,I wouldn't trade my childhood playthings and good times for a truck load of that stuff. How about you?

Old Fashion Popcorn Balls

1/4 cup of oil
1/2 cup of uncooked popcorn
1/2 cup of light corn syrup
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt

Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat for about 3 minutes. Add popcorn,cover but,leave lid off just a bit.
Shake until popping stops,turn off heat. Mix together corn syrup,sugar and salt. Add to popcorn, stirring over medium heat 3-5 minutes until sugar is dissolve and popcorn is evenly coated. Remove from heat,form into balls with butter coated hands being careful not to burn yourself. This with make about one dozen balls.
The secret to shaping the balls is to have your hands buttered really well.

My plan is to make caramel apples as well,making my caramel from scratch. We'll see how that goes...

I gathered these sticks from the yard to use in the apples...they have been washed and cleaned,now waiting for the apples to be dipped in the caramel...yum.

Chit,Chat and remembering a Life......

It was cold when I woke this morning. My house has no central heat,just a space heater that burns propane. I don't light it unless it gets really cold..we are having temps in the 40's and high 30's here right now at night. So,I just use a small electric heater to warm the house up some. Mind you I am no way complaining...Not one bit after that horrible summer of 100 + temps...this morning was a blessing compared to that. Today the high will be in the 60's with sunshine...just wonderful. Would be a great day to browse around a flea market some where but,that won't be on my agenda. I would have loved to have made it to the pumpkin patch with the kiddos but,there was just to much going on in our lives for that this year. I have been fighting a blue mood after the death of my grandsons father. He was a man to be pitied in many ways. After my daughter and him divorced he was homeless for a long time,just living wherever he could. He had lost one leg to cancer when the boys were babies which left him unable to do much of any hard labor work and he didn't have an education for office work or anything of that type plus,he had other medical and emotional problems as well. So he lived on disability which doesn't afford much to rent a home or such. Thank God I don't have rent to pay because I couldn't. About a year or so ago he finely got settled into a government assisted housing and the boys were getting to come for regular visits. He had a provider to help with his housekeeping etc. and was doing really well. The boys were looking forward to spending the summer with their dad this year. He didn't have a lot of family other than two sisters and some nieces and nephews and all of us who still considered with family. Him and my daughter,his ex wife,were the best of friends and got along well with one another. Anyway, it is so sad but,when he passed not a family or friend was with him. Except the friends he had made of the doctors and nurses...he didn't know any strangers and made friends wherever he went. None of us knew that he had went back to the hospital...he had been in for pneumonia but,had gotten better and was sent home. He had just spoke to my daughter the day before his death and was home but,did say he wasn't feeling well. It broke my heart and my daughters too that he was alone with no one to hold his hand or say goodbye. We all went to the hospital that afternoon after he passed and visited him...he was still in the ICU and looked liked he was just laying there sleeping. The Champlain and the staff were all so helpful and caring and were upset over his death as well as we....they were treating him for the pneumonia and were in no way expecting him to suffer a massive heart attack while there. They explained to us that they had worked for almost an hour trying to revive him but,there was never anymore sign of life. And to further the story...he had no kind of insurance and none of his family nor,any of us has money to provide a burial. So,his sisters decided to have him cremated which hurt the twins. Needless to say there have been regrets,what ifs,and the like which never does any good for anyone but,we all seem to do that..don't we? My daughter and the boys have decided to give his ashes a resting place in the cemetery where some of our other family members are laid to rest. We will have a graveside service and memorial for him at a later date.

This man loved the Lord..he loved listening to Christian music,attending church and just being around other people. He loved his kids with all his heart and respected me and their mom even after they were no longer married. He brought me roses many times just because and although I told him over and over I hope he knew what that really meant to me. He wasn't a perfect fellow by far and none of us are but,I do believe he found his place in God's Kingdom. And for that I should be so happy for him.....and I am but,still very sad for his boys that will have to finish growing up without their daddy. But,God is with them and I know they will be OK.

I found this little picture at the charity shop here in town...I past it up several times before I brought it home. I am glad I finely decided to...I like it and think it is very sweet and primitive looking...what you think?

Off my Porch.....

Yesterday I took my cane got off the porch and took a little stroll around the yard and to the edge of the woods. If you like you may follow along with me, Lets go! Just off the porch is this little flower garden box above. The mums my mama gave me last fall. I had my son replant them and they are blooming this year.
The plant below is some kind of moss that came up voluntary. It's pretty and has little yellow blooms on it.

This is my neighbor daughter's chicken pen and that little rooster you see is Fetus...he is quite the character. He thinks he is as big as everybody else. He rules the roost..smile.

This is Sedum... I have planted in an old washtub. It is usually much prettier than this but,the hot summer took its toll on it. Plus,my son ran over the tub with his truck and uprooted it some....boys!

This guy is my daughter's Tom Turkey...Thanksgiving is his name but,he isn't for dinner. He is her pet! His wife's name is Christmas and she isn't for dinner either...smile. He is huge,about two feet tall.

And this is my home...such as it is....chippy paint and all! And my broken down van....when so many have no home at all....I feel very blessed for this home of mine. I do hope some day to make a few improvements. There have been many over the years to be sure. And still I may move at some point. As they say...time will tell. Basket ....
A container made of twigs, rushes, thin strips of wood, or other flexible material woven together.

I like baskets...they are pretty,useful and works of art in my opinion. I have a quite a few but,am just sharing these today. All the ones you see in this post have been found at thrift stores,garage sales or flea markets.
They are always very cheap.....don't think I ever pay over a 1.99 for one.

This one sits on top of my refrigerator and keeps my bread,chips,etc.

If you are very tall you will bump your head on these...smile.

Even the bottoms can be pretty.

One thing I like about baskets is they are not only nice to look at but,they come in quite handy when needing to carry something. They have been around for centuries and I don't see them ever going out of style. I prefer the older ,vintage,antique ones but,there are a lot of nice modern ones out there too.

In my little Basket.

I will take my little basket and a gathering I will go...Reaping earths bounty,the blessings God bestows. Flowers in Spring,bright leaves in Fall....in Winter I will gather pine cones to hang from my Christmas Tree so tall. No need to go spending money on something false...take your basket and go shopping in God's bounty...where there isn't any cost.

These sweet Boyd's Bears are my finds from the Ladies Axillary sale Betty and I went to last Friday. Also,the hand crocheted doilies they are sitting on. I found a few other little things but,nothing interesting enough to share,except for a lovely book of Children's virtues with some beautiful illustrations. I will save that for a future post.

The big bear was $1.00 and the little ones were .25 cents each....not bad for a Boyd's Bear..huh?

I am grateful for so much in my life. But today I have a special feeling of gratitude to my Heavenly Father. Some mornings after I wake...I linger in my bed.... I pray...I read my bible...I talk to God and he talks to me. Do I hear an audible voice?...no! I feel words of inspiration rise in my heart....coming from beyond my own thoughts or meditations....like a melody playing in my soul.....I stretch past this normality and reach a Heavenly Realm ....then words of inspiration come....I believe from God's throne....Such as these this morning........

A Child's evening Prayer.

May your Lord's day be blessed with peace and much rest. My leg got much better.So much so that I was able to play Mother Goose for the little ones at our Harvest Festival...I actually stayed very busy reading to young and (not so young) all evening. It was so much fun....I had one little one about four years old kept coming back over and over...made me wonder if anyone ever took time to read to the little fellow....I was blessed to do so!

Looks like Heaven was shining down on us.

My sweet grandsons Jaxon and Isaiah stop by to have Mother Goose read them a story.

You never really grow to big to be read to....its a soothing thing in a very hectic world.

Picnic in the Park

As you know from my post yesterday...it was the annual sale of the Ladies Axillary that my friend Betty and I attend every year. We always follow up with a picnic in a beautiful local park in Tyler. The sale was wonderful as always but,I found this year that it was much harder on me physically. It was a long wonderful day but,I am in much pain this morning. I have prayed,taken pain meds,applied patches and still my whole right leg is swelled and in so much pain. I believe most of the pain is coming from the hip but,it is hard to distinguish. Anyway,I am sorry to complain to you all and I am sure I will live over it....smile. It was a very fun day over all...I found a few little things and will share them later. It was Betty's time to host our picnic and she picked a Halloween theme. The table was festive and the food was wonderful! She made the most delicious drink,which was white grape juice,ginger ale and then she added fruit,mixed berries and pineapple. Yummy!

I have had a fun day planned to spend with a friend for sometime now. So,that's what I will be doing today. Betty and I will have our annual day out,visiting the Ladies Axillary sale at the Salvation Army and then a picnic in the park. She is the picnic host this time and has a fun theme planned for our day.

I am so very grateful for all the many prayers and comments on behalf of our recent loss....my daughter and grandsons are blessed so much by them. I had to come home quite abruptly this morning from my parents house,my daughter Kathy left school to come and get me because of an emergency. My heart is breaking tonight because my dear grandsons Aaron and Austin have lost their daddy today from a massive heart attack. He was 45 yrs old. My daughter Regina,the boy's mama is taking this very hard as well. They have been divorced from some years but,were still very close friends and both of them love the boys so much. This is such a sad day for our family. Please,remember Regina and the twins in your prayers for the next few days...thank you all so much and God bless. Shelley

I will be away from home a few days spending time at my parents home again. My mama is having surgery Monday morning to repair a hernia. My daddy is doing so wonderfully after his knee replacement surgery and walking better than he has in years. I am trusting the Lord that my mama will have a quick recovery as well. I am asking for prayer for her that all goes well in surgery and there are no complications.

I also wanted to share something with you all that I put together...I found this candle holder a good while ago at GW. It was brown and I spray painted it black. The hanger I purchased from Walmart in the garden center. Last night while shopping for groceries I finely remembered to buy some colonial candles for it. So this is how it turned out. I have it hanging over my little kitchen table.

I have seen similar ones and they can be quite expensive...I like this one. It suits me fine...smile.

While at Hobby Lobby recently I found two more little sheep to add to my collection....the two standing. They were in the hobby section with all the other little farm animals. Hobby Lobby always has great sales and these were 30% off so,the price was just a few dollars for the both of them. The little book I have had for a good while. Mary is watching over my little lambs....smile.

This magazine rack I think I paid about $1.00 for....it was brown...I spray painted it and distressed it with some steel wool.

Most of these books were from a dear reader of my blog....so kind of her to mail them to me.....like I said in my previous post...Amazing friends.
