Do you ever wish you were a child again? That all seemed right in the world, when your imagination could take you any where you wanted to go! It would be wonderful, would it not? It seems to me though that in this day and time...childhood isn't as fun as it was years ago. Children don't seem to need imagination as much as they once did. Technology seems to provide them with little need to imagine now. Very sad case to me! Toys are not as wonderful as they once were. Just scan the toy isles of Walmart next time you shop.....so different from the toys of yesteryear. Yes,there are still some nice toys out there but,you must look hard to find them. I prefer buying the "old school style" for my grandchildren. Toys that encourage the imagination, etc. Sadly they outgrow them all to fast these days. Why must children grow up so fast? My own childhood was brief..and as said before....I sometimes long to return. But if honest, most of us wouldn't mind being a child again for just a little while anyway :) Childhood should be safe and secure. Sadly,it isn't always as it should be! There are those who lived a very insecure and unstable childhood. Their inner child is still there, buried beneath the adult years, clinging and crying out to be held, comforted and loved!
How does this happen? What I begin to be a fun, happy post on this blog...once again turns serious on me as I begin to type words. I too have an inner child with a longing! Maybe that's why I crave these cute little child like images, old vintage toys, sweet old children's books and dolls! If you have been coming here long, then you must know of my love for old baby dolls. I long to make that little girl in me comfortable and at ease. To help her realize that everything is right with the world, she is loved and all is well! And by God's grace...she is!
Thanks for allowing me to share my heart with you.....
I found this cute image on facebook.....the little house made me smile. |

I don't want anyone to miss out on what can be an enchantment filled life.Even with hard times and difficulties. With child-like eyes,us Ol' Christian women can show younger woman that you can still have a life filled with blessings upon blessings-filled with enchantment from God Himself.I think it's a ministry a lot of struggling young Mothers need.
I do all of the time Shelley. When I was a child I used to have a dream of us living in a nice old big house and I found a secret room hidden away upstairs. When I opened it up to my amazement it had all of the toys that I would have loved to have in it! I was so excited and felt like it was a dream come true! Sadley I had to wake up and it wasnt true but I remember trying real fast to go back to sleep so I could continue on my dream of this hidden room of mine :)
My little girl is coming back to life as my heart heals. Lovely post Shelley. Thank you for sharing.
Shelley, your words are straight from the Lord. I love reading what you say because you speak from your heart. I am certainly in touch with my inner child. I love the things that remind me of being loved and cared for. It breaks my heart that some children never know that feeling. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Twyla
Dear Shelley,
You are so right about toys and books today. It seems like such a shame that children are missing out on those simple toys.
When I was a young mother I bought a box of old Little Golden Books at a yard sale for my sons. The drawings of children in those old books are so sweet and beautiful - they are art to me. I still have all those books, hoping to share them with my grandchildren one day.
Many blessings to you friend,
Kim
HI Shelly,
I was just having a similar conversation with my friend today!
I long for those simpler times. when we played outside all day with not much more then the "spud" ball......or with out one...red light green light..hide and seek Mother may I..... Chinese jump rope... hop scotch.......hmmmm didn't cost Mom anything......what is going on any way with all that stuff these kids of today are getting bomb barded with!! Sigh...
You were so cute!! I had that same haircut!!! :-D
Love Hugs and Blessings, Linnie
My childhood memories are some of my most precious memories. I love to try and re-create them for my grandbabies. Simple toys and simple fun. I think it's important to share "simple" with them.
They love it too...board games, tea parties and building blocks. Baby dolls, bubbles and Hide & Seek. I sure hope I can pass on a bit of my "inner child" to them.
Nice post Shelley!!
