How I Spent my Labor Day!

Well,I didn't do any celebrating of any kind for Labor Day..some of the kids usually cook up something, but not this year. I stayed home and took it kinda easy today,in a way. I crocheted some, watched "Faith Like Potatoes" on a DVD, again. Have you ever seen it? I enjoy this movie so very much....it always gives my faith just a bit of a boost. Such a good wholesome movie and based on a true story too. After that I went out to water the yard after my grandson Aaron had mowed for me..maybe this will be the last mowing of the summer. After that I had a bright idea to give my dog Jessie a bath outside with the hose. She is a Black Lab and strong...so I didn't manage very well with her.She just almost got me down on the ground. I had my larger walker ,the one with a seat on it,and thought it might not be so hard to sit and bath her,but it turned out to be a huge challenge for me. I got just about as wet as she did. I guess all is well that ends well, but I don't think I will try that by myself again. I wish I could fine her a good loving home to go to..shes just a bit to much for me to care for. I do love her though..she is so sweet and a very good watch dog. Another thing I did today was string some Jalapeno peppers on a twine braid to dry out for seed. I have so many peppers...I can't use them all,and they are almost to hot to consume...really! These had already turned red and are kinda pretty hanging up. Well, that was my day...how was yours?

What do you think about my peppers? My first time trying this.
And here in the picture below,I am crocheting a granny square floor mat for my bedroom..from an old sheet I ripped into strips. I'm sure I will need to add another sheet to make it big enough though.

Blessings,Shelley

The crocheted mat looks awesome Shelley - I love it! Crocheting is something I've always wanted to do. I've saved a bunch of pictures and patterns to try when time permits.
The pepper string is nice - a bright and cheery touch to your kitchen. I like the black silhouette above your stove too!
Have a great week!

I have never tried using fabric for crochet, but always admired the end result. Something to add to my list :)

Thank you for sharing this morning Shelley...

Glad you have a peaceful Labor Day, so did we. We watched the movie “Faith Like Potatoes” and liked it as well. Often if you call animal rescuers they will find a new home for your pet, they understand when it becomes too difficult to care for animals. When my aunt got sick, they took her birds and found homes for them. They even arranged for my aunt to meet the new people to put her mind at ease. I am not sure all rescuers would do that but these folks did. Red peppers, once dried make good bug repellents to sprinkle around the basement outside and in. My hubby does that every year, as I am not able to withstand chemicals.

My daughter crocheted some rugs for the bathrooms and I found I tripped over them all the time so she had to take them up. We found mats with rubber backs that stick to the floor better so none of us trip over the rugs. I do like your rug and think it will make a very pretty one.

Hi Shelley, Thank you for visiting my blog; I see we have many things in common beside our love for Jesus. I have two daughters and nine(soon to be 10-any day now)grandchildren. I too love all things Amish and quilting and a simple life. Your peppers are so pretty. I'll be back to visit again. Have a blessed day!

Dear Shelley,

That sounds like a good way to celebrate Labor Day! Big dogs do take a lot of muscle, don't they? Maybe someone nearby is missing their black lab right now, and yours would fit the bill nicely! :)

Isn't it amazing how many sheets it takes to make rugs? Yours looks a lot nicer than the crocheted messes that I've made, which are languishing in tote boxes, waiting to be resurrected as some type of crazy bowl or hat.

How nice that you had that many peppers! Your string looks very professional, and will keep you in peppers for a long time, I bet. I just froze some hot peppers that I bought at the store, since they were a little too much heat to handle, and weren't pretty enough to dry.

Here's to a wonderful rest of the week!

Love,

Marqueta

I bathed my dog too! She doesn't like baths. I filled up a little kids' pool in my yard, use a gardening pad to kneel on, with a leash on her and I kneel on the leash
as she is always trying to leave the water! I have to work quick as it is torture for her, or so it seems. Then, when finished, I try to keep her from rolling in the dirt until she dries! love, andrea
