Reborn Babies

Google image

Have you ever heard of reborning a doll? When I first read the term  "Reborn Doll", I was like......what in the world is a reborn doll? Maybe you too are asking that same question right this minute. I began researching, and discovered I was amazed at the reborn dolls I was seeing on ebay and elsewhere.  These dolls are took and repainted to look very much like real newborn babies.  Not only that , they have soft baby fine  hair thats rooted right into their heads , as well. Some are even made to have breathing mechanisms, that make them appear as if they are really breathing.  Some people find these dolls creepy, but not me. However, while researching I have seen some made very creepy indeed. I can't imagine why someone would want a sweet baby doll with horns and sharp teeth, now thats creepy!

These sweet babies are not ! You can go here to learn more about reborning dolls.

The price on these completed dolls range from 100 to in the thousands.  Can you imagine?  Well no way will my budget afford one, and even the kits to create a reborn yourself is fairly expensive.  So me, Simply Shelley...the good queen of make do came up with an idea to make one myself in " make do style " :)

I found a baby doll at the thrift store that has been loved very much, lets just say!  I disassembled her, wash the head, arms and legs, purchased some cheap craft paint and after watching tutorials on you tube, set out to paint my baby. Next , I will be resewing a new body for her and going on from there. I have took a few pictures to show the work as I go along, and then we will have my reborn baby reveal  as soon as I am done with her.  Please, don't expect to see what you see in the pictures here. Remember my baby will be a very cheaply "make do" reborn doll ;)

See you all soon.....have a fun weekend,  Shelley

Fun Saturday Post............

She thinks of taking sewing lessons.

This little shelf from goodwill was brown with a drawer in the bottom space. I thought of making a small doll house from it for this little Blythe doll, but she is just a bit to big for such, but it stills makes a cute display shelf. I papered the back walls, which we originally open, with craft paper, that I found at the charity shop. The cute little treadle sewing machine I have had on hand for a long while. How to you like the little girl bunny in the first room?

I once found these very sweet bluebird salt and pepper shakers at a garage sale for only .25 cents, years ago. I have held on to them ...while getting rid of so much other stuff. They are just to cute to part with!
Such a happy little bluebird!

Save these cute images if you like. My little Easter treat for you!  They were free to me...I just can't remember from where.

Simple living Shelley.... Still.......

Took a little walk around the grounds today with my walker and a big dishpan. Went to gather some things to make up a pan full of natural potpourri from my woods and there about. Thought I might offer some at our upcoming church Christmas Bazaar.

Getting started.

Lots of woodsy goodness in there :)

Now,I will bring it inside, add more as I go,and then let it cure for a couple of weeks before the Bazaar. It's already smelling wonderful to me.

You know,I was thinking about myself today....really I haven't changed much from whom I have always been. The things I have always held most dear to me,God,family,friends,church...those are still the things closest to my heart today. I still find pleasure in the most simple things...always have. It is nothing new for me to gather from my yard something to decorate my home with....a present for a loved one...could be something I created from things I already had on hand,or maybe a poem for my heart. I remember as a small girl making dolls from old socks,or toothpicks(body) and acorns(heads). Ever done that?

See this picture below.....this was around 1988 or close there by. The centerpiece on the coffee table are things I gathered from our then woods....cedar,pine,pine cones,Autumn leaves, etc. That was our family Thanksgiving day! We lived in the country,no phone,no hot water heater,no gas,no washer,no dryer.
We heated our home with a wood stove, heated our bath water on that same stove...I washed our laundry by hand or went to the laundry mat. My kiddos ran up and down our little lazy country road and rode tall skinny pine trees up and down for fun. They played in the creek, played house and made forts....my girls wore dresses,no pants and were very modest. We went to church three times a week, and never begrudge it. We loved it...it was the center part of our lives. We had bible study in the mornings and said our prayers each night...along with bedtime stories.
I love how I raised my children...not everything was wonderful, nor perfect, but life was basically good for us.
I have so much to thank God for.......now,and then!

Blessings,Shelley

Fun Project idea.....

I have a fun project in mind to do.....its been going around and around in my head. Will I ever get it passed my thoughts? I can't say,but its fun thinking about it! It has something to do with the likes of this...........made from cardboard! Of course, this one was professionally made, where as mine would be handmade :)

And adding some of these.............

And then inviting  my little Amish fellow to live there with his new bride and baby of course....

Setting up a little Amish homestead would be a lot of fun...don't you think?

Let's talk Toilet Paper........

Yep..we all use it ,I hope ;) So we might as well talk about it. Don't ya think? In doing so I just wanted to share another way "Simple Works". Put an extra roll in a little basket on the top of your toilet.
Store the rest away in a larger basket somewhere in your bathroom.

And for that handy roll.....if you have a shelf ,such as mine here, which is made from old barn wood....a big nail makes for a great holder and at no expense.

Something so simple works great....I think so anyway!

Over my years of raising a family and keeping house...I have (because of necessity) always had to find a way to make do. You will be surprised as to some of the ways I came up with of making this and that work.
