Almost Amish

I think many of you know how much I am inspired by the Amish.

And, I truly believe that...........

I also have a strong faith in praying to the Almighty...I know he hears and answers my every prayer, but my desire is that his will be done!

I have even been accused of being .....

Which is fine by me.....I can see why some people might think so :)

Its even pretty obvious in some of my home decor, that I like the Amish way :)

I live pretty much................

I even choose to live simply when it comes to serving Christ.

I pretty much like to...
in whatever it is I do in life.....doing all things as unto Christ....he is our blessed HOPE.

You might know these things about me,but did you know we have Amish among us here in .......

Yep...right here in Texas, Beeville ,Texas, that is!

Although their life situation is a bit different from their northern brothers and sisters...I am sure they have the same sweet soulful spirit though.

Texas has a wide open sky down south, but the ground isn't as fruitful as most. There is less farming done here, more working with the hands, making horse buggies and such is how they make their living. They aren't as financially well off as their northern cousins either, but I reckon they are great at making do.
The Lord will supply, for sure and for certain!

Its just a small community ,but we do have Amish in Texas, and I wouldn't mind getting to know some of them if ever given the opportunity.

You can read more about the Beeville Amish here. All the pictures came from this same site as well.

I purchased an honest to goodness Amish hat from the Trading Post man here in our little town. Making it a part of my collection of Amish things. If I ever had a spare bedroom...I would love decorating it completely Amish.

I pray you have a very blessed Lord's day Sunday.....

Picture This............

How was your first day of Autumn?  Mine was wonderful, the weather fit it just right too. It has been a wonderful Lord's day all the way around. I finely got a few things done on Saturday and took a few pictures. A bit of Autumn decorating, some other color and vintage look I have added too.  I hope all of you have a blessed week.....I hope this Autumn like weather hangs around for a bit....,but here in East Texas...one just never knows  :)  Blessings, Shelley

This shelf I had painted black at one time, it was over the sink.. now, I have painted it this pretty aqua color, and moved it here.

The desk top............with some of my Amish things...I even found a small German testament at the charity shop here in my little town. That's it you see beside the FAITH sign.

My front door........a basket full of Autumn posies.

Green lantern hanging in the kitchen.

And some very cherry kitchen towels hanging on the stove  :) Just a few items I picked up on the clearance shelf at the Dollar Store!

Its a start...for a more vintage cottage look...I am pleased so far  :)   ,but I am about as bad as our Texas weather...if you don't like what you see today...just hang around...Its bound to change  ;)

My Little girl's Room!

Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee.  Psalms 119:11

While I was in bed for those days after surgery, and couldn't really do much else,I piled my bed full of books and magazines to read and look through. Of course,I got a lot of bible reading in as well! When at one point I became bored,I played with my camera, taking random pictures. Thought I would let you see! Nothing important, just random things in my bedroom......and all my books snuggled in beside me. I often sleep with my bible and other books I am reading. Don't know why,I just do!   :)

Country Sampler...love it!

Amish Proverbs...a birthday gift from daughter! I have enjoyed it so much.
Contentment and trust are characteristics of a satisfied life.

Little Book of Prayers... from one of  you, my dear blogging friends
But that isn't the most recent gift I received ...I still need to let out the secret for that! Check previous post!

From a long time pen pal friend, that has become as close as a sister!

If someone didn't know better, they might think this was a little girls room,Nope...its mine!
I do believe my little girl lives on though. Somewhere in the back of my mind. She needs a little comforting, from time to time!

Do you see a much younger me,looking out of those old eyes?  She is in there, and she is smiling too!

Mammy and Dawdy Yoder

Villcom ( Welcome) Meet Mammy and Dawdy Yoder. They have been out in the garden this morning gathering fresh vegetables for a nice pot of stew. They are on up in their years now, with  nine children and many grandchildren behind them. Their youngest son Josiah is in charge of the farm these days and they dwell in the adjoining " Grossdawdy Haus " ( grandfathers house) .
Their days are spent enjoying life at its best surrounded by love from all the Kinskinder (grandchildren) . Bouncing the wee ones on their knee, sharing memories, wisdom, joy, and secrets of Amish life with the elder. Sixty and five they have been happily married .  They have much of life to share....maybe they will share their stories here with you :)    We will see!

This too shall pass......

Hot tea with a slice of lemon does wonders for an ill body, but you must drink it from a beautiful ,vintage tea cup in order for it to work  :)

Amish Friendship Bread

I had some bread starter shared with me and it was on the tenth day after I received it ,that I was to  separate the starter to be shared with three other friends, then bake the bread from the remainder....that day fell on the day I was just starting to feel bad, but alas..I baked my bread! Its more of a sweet cake like bread, and I think the next go around ...I will omit some of the sugar and make it less sweet. The mix makes the two loafs so if you can't use two...you have one to share, which I did! While I have been sick,I have been breaking a piece off on and then and having it with my tea :) Its quite tasty!

I have been visiting blogs and my heart is breaking because so many are already at the very first of this new year facing some very tough situation in their lives....death of loved ones, cancer, other illness as well...Well dear souls while ... God did not promise us we would not face trials ....he did promise he would never leave us,nor forsake us....he is with us.....so please,be encouraged today.....we are ever in his care.

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. James 1:2-3 NLT

No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening--it's painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. Hebrews 12:11 NLT

Do I dare share this picture ...while in my sad ,sick state? Yes,I do because.... I wish you to know that, though we suffer we can smile, because we do not bare our burdens alone.....and while I feel my suffering today is but nothing compared to what some of you are facing...I have faced great trials in the past...some I thought would sure be the death of me,and yet I lived, and was ,but stronger for it... in the end (and there will be an end).  I pray you too will find peace, strength, and endurance through whatever trial you may be facing ....and know for certain...that this too shall pass! Blessings dear friends...you are in my prayers!

Just out of the sick room.....SMILE...Jesus loves you!

Fun Project idea.....

I have a fun project in mind to do.....its been going around and around in my head. Will I ever get it passed my thoughts? I can't say,but its fun thinking about it! It has something to do with the likes of this...........made from cardboard! Of course, this one was professionally made, where as mine would be handmade :)

And adding some of these.............

And then inviting  my little Amish fellow to live there with his new bride and baby of course....

Setting up a little Amish homestead would be a lot of fun...don't you think?

Then he smiled and asked,So when are you getting the electricity and water cut off? I answered...I am keeping the water, unless you can dig me a well.

Amish Proverbs

My birthday is coming up on this next Thursday,so my daughter Regina and her family took me to have dinner Saturday evening,my favorite Chinese food :) We also stopped in Barnes and Noble's Bookstore...I picked this book out and they bought it for me as an early birthday gift. Afterward we had to stop by my son in law's job so he could take care of some business. While he was busy and the boys were out helping him..Regina and I sat in the pick up and waited. She was knitting while I was reading this book out loud to her. I am going to enjoy it for a very long time. The words in it really bless me. Some of the sayings in this book,I remember my own family members using over the years, grandparents, aunts, uncles and such. If you admire,as I do,the Amish way of life...you will certainly want to get this book. Tis a gut book!
Blessings on your week
