Advent Sunday

Second candle lit, Peace.

Second advent Sunday.
Beginning four Sundays before Christmas, its purpose is twofold: first, it prepares us for the celebration of the birth of Christ and second, it reminds us that we are eagerly waiting for Jesus' return in glory.

Light came into the darkness.
"Prepare the way of the Lord" serves as a main theme of this season. As we get ready for Christmas, we should not neglect to prepare our lives for Jesus, who came as "the light of the world." His light penetrated a dark world, which allowed all to see their Messiah, and the hope of their future.

The dolls have their own little advent wreath.

But you, Bethlehem, only a small village in Judah, yet a ruler of Israel will come from you, one whose origins are from a distant past ... And He will stand to lead His flock with the Lord's strength ... Then His people will live undisturbed, for He will be highly honored all around the world. And He will be the source of our peace." (Micah 5:2, 4-5)

First Advent Sunday

First Advent candle

No fancy wreath, just simply one candle burning in early morning.
I have so much "HOPE"on this first Advent Sunday.  May your Lord's Day be blessed.

Baby in a manger
Christ is the true hope for all mankind.  My hope is, that all mankind will come to believe in the hope and truth of his salvation.

Third Advent Sunday....JOY

Three candles on the third Advent Sunday.  JOY is the candle today...the joy of the Lord is our strength. How could we continue without the joy of Christ, filling us with hope and strength to face each new day...each new year? Amidst trails and tribulations...there is always...always the JOY of the Lord abiding in the hearts of the redeemed.....Christ our Redeemer.....Immanuel...God with us, sustaining us.....filling us with joy...his joy. The joy of God with us.....Jesus!

Do not grieve for the joy of the Lord is your strength.  Neh. 8:10

Second Advent Sunday

He is our hope, his love for us is like none other...two candles lit.
If there were no money for presents ,under the tree.
No mistletoe hanging,no wreath,no singing
No turkey on the table,no guest sitting in your chairs.
Tell,me...would there still be Christmas anywhere?
No parties for folly,no tree ,nor holly.
Would there still be Christmas in your home, would you still feel jolly?
So if there were none of that...those things I mentioned above,
And all there was...was, God with us
Would he, would Jesus be enough?
I say Yes....Immanuel, God with us....
Yes, O yes ...So much more, than just enough!
I say rejoice... Church Rejoice...for Immanuel,
Has come to thee O Israel.  SB Dec. 2013

First Advent Sunday

First Sunday Advent has been a blessed day. I taught our children in the church this morning about the celebration of advent. We lit the first candle of HOPE. I read them Isaiah 9:6  Isaiah spoke of the Savior that was to come. Jesus is still our hope for today. He came, and is coming again, not as a babe in the manger, but as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords! Our blessed Hope!

Thoughts on Advent

Advent 2011

This coming Sunday will begin Advent in my home. I only started observing this tradition a few years ago,but Oh, how I wish I had knew of this when my children were small. Our church doesn't teach advent, but I happen to think its a wonderful thing. It keeps one focused on the very true meaning of the Christmas season....tis Christ birthday celebration after all! I find myself getting more excited about putting together the advent wreath this year, more so....than putting up the Christmas tree. I have the candles ready, and while I laid in bed last night...I was thinking of just how I would to assemble it this year. I am adding a fifth candle ...the Jesus candle, which will burn all day Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I will be making sure it is in the form of a (circle)as well, representing ....God...no beginning ...no end...ever lasting...he was..he is, and always shall be! Father, son and Holy Ghost!

I am wondering, do you observe Advent in your home dear friend?  Blessings, Shelley
