Birds...Blooms and words

I have grown a fond attraction to birds over the last year or two. While I have always admired them, and loved their songs,my interest in them has really heighten. I want to learn more about the different species, their calls and characteristics etc. ,how I may attract them to my yard and so fourth.
Yesterday,I heard a cry and looked at the window...I saw my neighbor daughter running toward my home after something. The look on her face told me she was very much frustrated. I went out on the porch and she came from behind my house with a beautiful dead bluebird in the palm of her hand. Miss Kitty had jumped up and snatched it from the bird feeder. She and I both have been working to bring the birds to us,and this was so disappointing, but its to be expected when you have cats, I guess!
While I just have two kitties...my neighbor daughter has over 10. We will be trying to put the feeders up higher this week!

I purchased this copy of Birds and Bloom over the weekend. I am thinking of subscribing to this magazine...for only $7.00 for the year...that's a great deal. Go here if you are interested.

And here you can find Birds and Bloom on Pinterest.

Plants are another thing of nature and God's creation I have a desire to learn more about. Gardening, flowerbeds,houseplants...even wild edibles...weeds...you can eat  :)

Poke weed, or Poke Salad as I call it.

Dandelion

A picture of my houseplants from last summer, they have grown much...I will show you soon. I am just happy to have kept them alive :)

Flowers once from a friends garden.....always a precious gift.

Tasha Tudor's home and garden....what an inspiration.
My family and I had a wonderfully blessed Easter....I pray you did too...

Have a Heart

My grandson Isaiah raked leaves for me ,and left me a heart  :)

I found this beautiful pot at the charity shop in town....I scrubbed it up,and now I am attempting to sprout hyacinth in it,as well as the little blue pot near the lamp. My mama gave me the zebra...I thought he looks cute among the plant life....kinda like he is in the jungle  :)   The little burlap bear was a gift from my friend Betty for Christmas, isn't he cute?

I leave this flicker light burning day and night...makes for a cosy feeling in my home.

At the cross where I first saw the light...his light!

I think we are bonding and forming a great companionship  :)  Snowie and I !

I pray you all have a blessed weekend and a beautiful Lord's Day on Sunday. The sun is shining so pretty here today and the temps are very nice.....I would love to be out and about browsing some flea market grounds somewhere today.....I do miss those kind of outings.  Blessings, Shelley

Watching rain fall through the kitchen window

On the porch, listening to the rain hit on the old tin roof.

Keeping the birds from their feeders.
Swiss Chard coming back to life.

Pots filling up with rain water.

Birdbath too.

Autumn Mums blooming.

Flowerbeds flooding...moving bricks and dirt.

Jaxon playing indoors.

Snuggling under quilts and pillows
Then the sun came through the woods.....I am thankful.  November is here!   Blessings dear friends

Hello Friends..........

Today, I started working on the end of my mobile cottage that I normally just turn my head from and pay no mind to. It is a small area that used to be the kids space, when they were still home. It is a space that I now use mainly for storage. I had plans to use it for a pantry ,and a playroom for the smaller grands, but over time it has gotten into bad shape. With left over items from my two sons and other things I have just pretty much stuck in there because I didn't know what else to do with it at the time. Guess, you could call it a " catch all  "  space! I spent some time in there this afternoon since the weather has finely cooled down enough to stay in there without any AC. That area stays shut off all summer to keep the front part of the house cool. Most of its contents will be going to the trash or as donations for our local Charity Shop here in town. Its going to be a slow process, if I go at it alone. Gone are the days of getting a job done and over with in one day, for me anyway!  I spend a little time on my porch this morning.....such beautiful weather. The sun is shining, but the temps are so comfortable. Makes me want to go buy a flat of pansies and set them out in the flowerbed.
It is also good weather for raising the window near my bed, and taking a long afternoon nap ,while the gentle breeze blows the curtain softly. The birds have been having a feast at the bird feeder since I filled it up with sunflower seeds....I have been seeing some beautiful birds visiting there, singing their happy tunes  :) I guess sunflowers are a real treat for birds of all kinds. I have really enjoyed watching them come and go.
Well,I think I will take myself up on that nap I aforementioned . Don't think me lazy....I am just unusually tired...most of the time.  Blessings sweet friends ...have a wonderful week.

I wanted to share this picture with you all before I go. I took it out in the front of my property. The mushrooms grew in a circle formation. It just amazed me so...I had to show you!

Rambling Rose

Google

I haven't been away from the house all week except for one outing with my daughter Kathy and little grandson ,Jaxon, last Tuesday. Which I enjoyed very much. Kathy is an RN and works so much...she and I don't get to be together a lot so when we get the chance I am always a happy mama  :)
To tell the truth, the weather has been horriblly hot with 100 degrees on the thermometer everyday this week, its truly been to hot to venture out at all. I have been about to burn up all week....inside the house even, with the old window AC giving all its got to keep my home partly cool. The little AC in the bedroom died a few weeks ago. So I guess I will be buying at least one new one before next summer. As much as I admire the Amish , the heat is one thing that would truly hinder me from living without electricity....I think everything else would be a breeze  :)  I sit on my porch a few days a week, later in the day when the sun starts going down and water what little bit of grass is left..a few potted plants and my Mexican Petunias, which are the easiest flower I have ever tried growing. I love them! They grow straight up tall and bloom purple petunias each morning...drop them by nightfall and blooms a whole new bunch of them the next morning. I mean to try and get someone to help me transplant some of these to other places around the yard. If I can't grow anything else ...these are doing lovely, I'll grow them. Maybe I can grow a yard full of them :)

Last summer

In the spring.
I don't have a recent picture ,but by now they are much higher than my angels head and very full. I think they will be good for transplanting. Now I am waiting for my mums, in the picture below, to start blooming...an orangey gold color...just right for autumn. Autumn is my favorite season...I do believe!

While I am rambling..

I have a new doll...she is only 6 inches ...she is wood and cloth...very much like Hitty.
I think she is going to lose her wig. She doesn't have her own name yet,but she will soon :)
I will share more about her in a later post.

I hope you all enjoy your holiday weekend. Those of you in the workforce,I know are so happy to have that extra day at home.  I pray your Lord's Day is beautiful.  Blessings, Shelley

Outside my door.......Off the Porch

Outside my door......these Mexican Petunias are now blooming, pretty purple flowers!

Collards ....I've eaten a few!

My little garden bed...isn't doing very well!   (Below) Bluebird in the pot!

Redbird in another pot!

Still trying to decide the color to paint my home. Applying a bit for a trial run! I'm thinking now...I may go with a tan color, and a prim red for the trim. May be a little cooler weather before the job actually gets done, though!

Old washbasins hanging, waiting to be used, for whatever reason they may be needed.

Like this  :)   My grandson Colton, when he was a little younger!

The pink petunias in the bucket, voluntarily came back on their own this year.

Looking in the window on my porch.....from the outside...in!

Here's what you'll see, on the other side of that window  :)

Blessings friends...................
