He Leadeth me........

I was asked in a comment if I watch T.V.....my answer to that question is,no... I no longer watch television. I made that choice about two years ago,and to be honest it wasn't something I preferred to do at any time in my life. When my husband was here in the home...watching T.V. was his favorite pass time. I had no control over the remote, and so I was forced to listen to a loud blaring T.V. with mostly inappropriate programming coming through for many years. If by chance I might find some program that I thought interesting, such as HGTV,(when we had a satellite),once husband walked into the room it was changed. So during the day while husband was working,in the days before I had a PC...I would watch a few programs..such as Country at Home....Country Style....crafty shows etc. Do I ever sat in front of a television these days ? At times I view a  choice movie on a DVD...when I am at my parents home..we watch old westerns (Gunsmoke, and the like)..Little House..The Waltons etc. The sitcoms of this day and time..I have no interest in.
What do I think of people who choose to watch T.V. ?  I think that is entirely their business, and none of mine! I live by my own convictions..when asked why I do or do not do a certain thing..I try and give the most honest answer I can. The Holy Spirit that dwells within me is my teacher and my guide, when something isn't appropriate  for me..I am prompted to stop or do differently. Usually I find in God's word the reason behind this, being brought to light through scripture ...Oh, Holy Spirit that is why you led me in a different direction! Thus that is how I live my life, and even more so than ever before....each day being led by the Spirit as to choices I make in every area of my life. So,am I a perfect example? By no means, but I do my best, and still I fail ...but God is faithful till the end. I have other convictions I live by as well, but they are my own and I do not force them upon anyone...I merely try to live by example, and when asked ..I try to give an answer as to why! So how do I spend my days without watching television...of course you know I do use a computer,I read, crochet, putter about, and then the housekeeping, laundry etc :) Do I miss the television? No,but how do I keep up with news,weather,etc..through the internet! Do I get bored? I don't find myself bored very often..but I do enjoy a time away from home ..shopping at a thrift store and the like. Do I believe it was a good choice for me...YES, the best...especially spiritually speaking!

Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit's leading in every part of our lives. Galatians 5:25 NLT
Blessings to you on this Lord's day my friends,Shelley

We do watch t.v. but are very picky! Sometimes we prefer to just enjoy the quiet.

The key is always listening to the Spirit's urging in your life. We do watch TV, but even then I am often convicted of what is on. It is then my responsibility to listen to His urging, be discerning and make a choice. I find that it's like that in anything that we do. We need that close relationship with Him so that we recognize His voice when He speaks to us. What I do today I may not do tomorrow because of His conviction. Thanks for sharing this.

My hubby is the same way, loves his TV. It is never on when he is not home. As for being bored without it, life offers so many diversions; we just do not have time for TV. We did do without one for a few years and it drove my husband nuts, so he found a way to bring one back into our lives and I have to say, often he sit alone in the room watching it, until I just cannot concentrate over the noise any longer. If my husband wants to watch something I find objectionable, I go to my room. But often by the time I am too tired for anything else, he is willing to change the channel to something better.

As you said and the Bible tells us, especially in Romans, it is better to walk after the Spirit and the things He draws us to than after the flesh.

Hi Shelley,
We have TV, but mostly for my husband. Like you, I can always find something more uplifting and peaceful to do. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Blessings...

Dear Shelley,

What a lovely post! We, too, have given up watching regular tv, unless you count YouTube. :) The internet has plenty enough to keep us busy, and even that has to be limited or we are on too much!

Love,

Marqueta
