Grandma's Quilt.....

How was your weekend? We are having cooler than normal temps here in our piney woods. It is feeling so much more like Autumn, and I am loving it! Had to get grandma's heavy quilt out and put it on my bed. Grandma Judge,my daddy's mother, could sew up a storm. She had a big commercial sewing machine she used. I never got to spend any time with her learning to sew or what not,but sure wish I had of. She made a lot of quilts in her time. In her later years she quilted them on that big machine I mentioned. The quilt I have was my dads and he gave it to me. Its not fancy or beautiful, but it sure is warm in cold weather. I stay as snug as a bug in a rug under it :) I also have some quilts my MIL made and gave me. I have been pulling them out one at a time over the last few weeks and washing them...some need mended in a few places and I intend taking care to do that soon. Cold weather is a good time for needle work, don't you agree?
Last week I suffered a great deal with pain in my right leg...after going to the ER with it,I was told it is the Sciatic nerve that is dealing the pain. I am feeling just a bit better, but I had to stay in bed a few days with it. If you have ever experienced that kind of pain, then you know what I am talking about. It hard to deal with, the pain meds were not even helping a lot. I have a couple of outings plan this week so I pray the worst of the pain is behind me. I was able to attend church yesterday, both services, and they were wonderful. It is always wonderful coming together to worship and hear the preaching of God's word. I count it a privilege to do so!
Hoping all of you have a very blessed week....what a blessing all of you are to me...thank you so much for your visits and comments....I love hearing from you!

Anybody know if this quilt patch has a name?

This picture below is of a friends bedroom...isn't her old quilt lovely ?

I don't think anything is more comforting than old quilt.

Dear Shelley,

That quilt does indeed look nice and snug! I wonder what the name is, too? Maybe something she just made up to use up the size scraps she had. Your friend's quilt is fun, too. Just lots of rectangles, but so artistically put together, it's like a painting.

I hope your nerve is better this week; my mom suffered from that a while back, too, and it really knocked her for a loop.

Love,

Marqueta

Heirloom quilts are the best. It means so much more if they were made by a family member, for a family member.
Love your bed!

I love quilts too. Unfortunatly the ones I have from grandmothers are just unfinished tops. I'd love to be able to finish them somehow. One grandmother used a machine, my great grandmother used hand stitching. Can you imagine the time it took? I do hope you are feeling better, experiencing less pain. Lifting you up in prayer.

Enjoy your precious quilt, Shelley. I really love them, too.

I am praying for you to feel better soon. I am so sorry for the pain you had last week - just awful! May God bless you with great health in all ways.

Love,
Lily
