Lets go Shopping..........

Pick up a basket at the door and lets go shopping at WOOLWORTH'S today!

Oh my, it does look as if they are very busy today. There must be some great sales going on.

Anyone need anything from the Toy Department?

How about this cute Gumdrop Tree from House Wares? My Grandmother always had one on her table for every holiday or special occasion.

Would you like to stop by the Fountain Counter for a treat before we leave?

Now,tell me what did you purchase?  I picked up this cute material from the fabric department.....won't it make a sweet apron?  That's what I thought. Now,its time to head back to our  homes girls.....We must be busy about our domestic duties :)

Thanks girls for playing along with me. I do wish we still had those fun stores to shop in as we did when we were children, but alas... gone are those days...given over to the Mega Stores ...namely Walmart! Still we have our little Charity Shops and Thrift Stores to give us a thrill from time to time, when we happen to come across an oldie, but goody treasure  :) Such as I did, when I came across this vintage piece of material while out and about with my daughter Regina yesterday.  I just wonder what its original owner made from it....maybe pillow slips, or tea towels,or as I mentioned before a very cute apron to wear in her kitchen ,of course!  My purchases are growing less and less....being so careful what I do bring home.  Its the fun of looking, that I enjoy most, and only choosing what I can really use,or can't seem to leave behind :)

What a fun shopping trip.. I so miss those kind of stores..When Hubby and I first married, I was 17 1/2 and he was 19.In those days, it was no such thing as having 2 cars.. So ,when he was at work, I would walk [about 5-6 blocks] to a dime store..And yes, that was the name of it. [it was just like Woolsworth]..The fabric was sold in flats [2ys up to 5 yds]. It was always folded so neatly on a big ole table.. The trimmings [thread, zipper , buttons ,etc were on a bin next to it]...oh so fun !! I really didn't know how to sew..But, I loved the fabric. We were too poor for me to buy anything, I just went and looked at all the pretty stuff. They had all the little cuties, and the pretty coffee pots,etc.. Never, ever did I realize that one day,all that cheap stuff would be so prized and hard to find.
Right down the street ,was an old fashioned fabric store.. I always ventured in there too.
Did you really buy that adorable fabric?? or was it part of memory lane? ha.. I love it.
What fun to go down memory lane.Thank you for sharing.

I loved reading your post today! My grandma had a gumdrop tree too. I've seen it sold at Vermont country store around Christmas, but she used it for Easter. (I like that price!)
Here is a museum not far from me in Pennsylvania...you might enjoy seeing the Woolworth store pics:

I still remember the 5 and 10 store in my small hometown..how I loved to look at their little trinkets when I was very young.

Oh, this was a fun stroll down memory lane...It made me think about the old "dime store" also...Now we have dollar stores, but certainly nothing like the old dime store!...I remember me and my brother walking two blocks to the candy store too...we could get a whole pocketful of candy with a dime!...Good old days.
~God bless~

I enjoyed this shopping trip thoroughly! That fabric is wonderful. What did I buy? Crayons...my favorite thing to buy there as a child!

I loved seeing your picture of the inside of the Woolworths. It looked just like I remember from my childhood. The last time I shopped at Woolworths was in 1963. I was Christmas shopping with my friend. We were in fourth grade and it was considered perfectly safe for her and I to walk around our small community shopping district. We had lunch at the Woolworth lunch counter. I remember seeing the orange and the red soda fountain drink glass container/dispensers back on the counter with their contents constantly bubbling and circulating. I remember the food as being delicious, and it was a big deal to have lunch while we were out. There were always so many amazing (to my 9 year od mind) things in the store. Everthing from fabric to live parrots and tropical fish. I bought earrings and a matching necklace for my mom that year for Christmas. If I'd had enough money, I'd have bought one of those parrots. I miss all of the old time stores and shops. I am sad that they all disappeared. They were gone by the time I was 12, 1966, right at the time that the first, largest mall in the US, at that time, was built and opened nearby. Now, even what had been the largest mall in the US is being torn down. Apparently, the department stores in the mall couldn't compete with the Walmart that was built across the street from it. I don't know if it is time "marching on" or chasing it's tail.

It's all about popcorn and all about ordering toasted cheese sandwich and tomato soup and a chocolate milkshake.
Mama bought me some toy doll furniture and some BlackJack Gum!
Thanks for the memories that last forever and ever!

I used to go to woolworth with my girlfriends when I was in my very early teens. It was a highlight of my weekends to to get a BLT, fries & a shake. Loved sitting at the counters!
Those were sweet times!

This was such a fun post. I'm glad we have thrift stores...I don't know what we would do without them! I don't care for many of the other stores now. Love your pretty fabric! Sweet hugs!
