I found this picture marked half off at Salvation Army for $1.99 yesterday. Its a very nice painting.
I am going to paint the frame black...I think that will suit it much better.
Also, speaking of the Amish I wanted to share a program aired on PBS on "The American Experience" a few nights ago...I don't get it on T.V. but,I watched it in its entirety at there website here.
If you have a interest in the Amish..I believe you will enjoy it very much. The only thing that I was disappointed about was the fact that they didn't bring out any scripture basis as to why the Amish believe the way they do...They talked more of the Ordnung which is the set of rules each church district sets for its church members.
Most of the Amish beliefs are based on biblical teachings in the New Testament and of the teachings of Christ himself. I see that as far as my understanding goes and what I have studied of their lifestyle and teachings. Most of the THINGS of the world they shun in their lifestyle, they considered to be hindrances, worldly temptations, connections with the outside world that may drive them from the ways of God.... separating them from their community and the church.
Although,I don't see eye to eye with all they believe...I do agree with very much of it and admire them so much for their sincerity and steadfastness to follow the old paths and stay true to Gods word. But,yet they are mere humans such as we all are and their salvation depends on their belief in Christ as the one and only way to the father....and they too are subject to fall just as we all are.
Wherefore come out from among them and,be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing and I will receive you. 2 Corinthians 6:17
And be not conformed to this world: but,be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2
But he that endure till the end,the same shall be saved. Matt.24:13

Love it Shelley, I couldn't find this show or any airing about it on my search list on directv. Guess I will have to watch it on their website! Love your post, keep em coming!
For a quite a few years I've studied the Amish lifestyle. They do have some very odd customs that are not biblical but I am attracted to their very hard work and simple ways. We can learn much and apply it to our life, and leave some behind too, as in many lifestyles. I believe God made us so unique and special and he showed us the narrow path to a lifestyle that is rich in abundance. Matters of the heart, wisdom of the mind, His word, to follow.
I find the Amish culture quite interesting and I follow an Amish blog. But some of their practices seem quite extreme. They are good hardworking people.
I like the Amish based movies
Hi Shelley,
My husband and I watched this program too, and found it very interesting and thought provoking. Also, I've had to re-add myself to your followers account because your blog completely dropped out of my Google Reader (not sure why).
Blessings,
Kim
Hi Shelly,
I just caught the tail end of this movie the other night and what I did see gripped me and I've been tellig every one about it!
Thankyou, now I can watch the whole thing.
One thing that I carried off from that show was a thing that a Mother of one of the slain little girls said.
She talked about forgiveness, and why it was signifigent. She said that why she was able to forgive was because "her soul was kneeling before Jesus all the time" and that her body is here.... but her soul is kneeling before the Lord!
WOW! I just can't stop picturing that! Glory to God!
Blessings HUGS and LOVE, Linnie
