Good Books.......


I ordered this book on line...I can't wait until it comes. I know it it going to be so inspirational.


I love to read,but what I read ...I am very particular about that! No trash talk for me...I hear enough of vulgarity from the public without choosing to read it as well. There are some books as well as movies with good stories to them,but why is it necessary to add bad language,or other offensive things to them. I have never been able to figure that out. So I choose to not read such books or watch such movies as those.   I don't mind something with a little mystery and intrigue  ..as long as it turns out with a happy ending :) I choose to fill my mind with good books...uplifting and worthy of my time. Something that is soul inspiring....teaching what is right...moral...toward Godly living.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Phil. 4:8

Fill your heart with such things..........

I read a lot of older books...written in a time when our world still had more Christian values than not! I love older classics...such as Little Women, and the "Little House"  books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I believe the Little House television programs were some of the best that T.V. ever offered. There are so many wonderful good books out there. I found some very good ones at the .10 cent sale I mentioned in a previous post. I don't think I could read all the good books that are out there in my life time. Still the greatest book of all time for me is the Bible...and always shall be! I know that all scripture is given for teaching and instruction,but I must admit...I favor the New Testament over the old. The words of Christ the most! Oh, to live by those words written in red...that is my greatest desire! I never tire from reading them.... absorbing word by word! Until they become living words to my very soul! Words that I try my best to live each day by.....and when I fail to do so,which I do...they are there within me...guiding me back to my right position. Directing my path....
So have you read any good books lately? They will do your heart good!

I agree with you when it comes to reading wholesome books. I enjoy Grace Livingstone Hill books,as well as Beverly Lewis, and Lauraine Snelling The Red River series. Reading is one of my favorite things.

I so know what you mean, Shelley. I bought a book from Amazon, learned it had a lot of trashy talk in it, and immediately sent it back. They returned my money and told me to keep the book, but I didn't think it was right to keep it after they reimbursed me, and,money was of no concern, really. I did have to pay for the shipment. I think they sent that back in the way of a coupon. I wondered why I got a specific small amount to use on my next purchase. Anyway, No amount of popular title would make me want to keep such a book in my home. I politely explained the reason, and they were also cordial.

I have kept that verse in mind, too, when thinking entertainment for me or the children. Husband is on his own. :-\

You do have a good book coming! I also like the old classics, and we read them as a family every night. Right now - "Homesick" by Jean Fritz. Very good so far.

I am totally with you. I love to read, but am very choosey. I don't like vulgarity or swearing. I love Beverly Lewis books and also Amish books by other authors. Recently read an excellent non-fiction called "Left to Tell" about a good Christian woman who survived the genocide in Rwanda in the 1990s. Excellent, excellent book! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm glad there are still many of us left who want to follow God in every way!

Shelley, I love anything Beverly Lewis or Janette Oke. Have you read any of Bodie Thoene's books? She has some wonderful historical fiction!

You just can't go wrong with a good Amish Novel. Love reading them especially those that have series of books. Can't wait to hear an update on this one. Looks wonderful. Love the author.

I didn't know there was an Amish prayer book. That sounds exciting! You'll have to tell us all about it when you start reading it.

I'm very careful about what I read too, though the subject matter I read tends to go in seasons. Right now, I'm reading books about church and religious history.

I LOVED the "Little House" books as a child. I still have those books somewhere in my home (I think). My mother bought them for me when I was a little girl. They were always pleasant to read.

Yes, the world is full of trash! That is for sure. I am on a magazine marathon right now reading old issues and cutting some idea's out etc in order to create more order in the little happy room.
I love a good old fashioned romance...
I love any childrens books...
I love very old fashioned mystery books...
I love Phyllis Whitney, Rosamunde Pilcher and Mauve Binchy books.

Oh Shelley we have so much in common... I love Beverly Lewis..I love Little house on the Prairie and The Waltons....There is so much junk on tv...I usually try to seek out the oldies...when I watch..I have a kindle Fire and love it. I can upload a book from Amazon immediately and they are cheaper than the paper form..and I do not have to put them away.. I just read and Kindle keeps them stored away neatly in Twilight zone...lol.. I only read Christian fiction or Christian fact too. I have not read the Bevery Lewis you posted...gonna have to look that one up...Blessings!

Huge little house books fan here!!! I enjoyed the show too but think of it as a totally separate from the books. ♥
