My very own Hitty Doll

Remember this little doll in the picture above? I mentioned her in a previous post not long ago. Well,I purchased her from ebay for a little bit of money. I loved her because she reminded me so much of Hitty. The little wooden doll from long ago!  I fell in love with Hitty after reading the book , "Hitty Her First Hundred Years ". I checked it out from our local library. Now,I have my very own Hitty book, gifted me from a sweet friend. I went looking on line for a Hitty doll and found them to be very expensive. Way more than I could ever afford!  Some were in the hundreds of dollars. I kept searching until I came across this little 6 inch carved wooden doll above. She was set at a very low starting bid so, I placed a bid and waited. I had someone bid against me and decided to place a higher bid just one more time. If I was to be outbid again...she would not be mine!  But alas, it was meant to be...I won! Her head, hands, and feet are wood..while her little body is cloth, stuffed with wool as her wool wig was. She is to be the closest I will come to owning a Hitty of my own. I was in mind to give her a small make over, which I did! First she would lose the wig.

And now my Hitty, after her make over, of course! I removed the dirty wool wig...washed all her clothing, gave her a good dusting, then gave her a painted hair do, so that she would resemble her sister, the true...Hitty :)

And here she is with our new Amish friend , Levi . He came all the way from Once Upon  a  Fairyland ,to live with us here in Texas.

Now,I am going to have fun gathering accessories for Hitty. I already have dishes, pots and pans,a little table and chairs, a small chest of drawers, and a few other things for her, but I want to come up with some wardrobe pieces for her. A few more dresses, a cape, even a sweet little undergarment with her name embroidered on it. Oh, and yes of course..the corral necklace.....we can't forget that.

Wouldn't these be wonderful to choose from?

You are sure to be reading more adventures from Hitty and I here. So don't stay away long.....we would sorely miss you  :)  Blessings

You have done an amazing job! Wow! Hitty looks fantastic! Believe me, lots of Hitty lovers would agree with me! Yes, you must acquire things for her. Why? She is an avid collector of stuff.. but she is so very tiny, she will take up no space at all! Congratulations on a doing such a great job!!

Hi Shelley, I have read Hitty: Her First Hundred Years, I borrowed it from the library quite a few years ago, but I have never seen a copy to buy. I keep praying I will find one at a thrift store or secondhand book store. Enjoy your Hitty and your book. You have been blessed. Linda S. from Canada

Hello Shelley, first off thank you for visiting me and giving me the link to your blog. I have loved this post, so pleased you managed to find yourself a wonderful Hitty - she is gorgeous and what a transformation you made. As others have said Hitty does like to collect a lot of stuff, and of course needs an extensive wardrobe! Have fun with her.

I also noticed that you lost a dear four legged companion the other month and I really feel for you having lost one of our beloved members of the family in August. So sorry.

his Shelley, I haven't been here in a while. Sadly I allowed facebook to suck away my time. I am reclaiming my time & going back to the blogging world that I so love. I haven't had the pleasure of reading Hitty, but I plan to check her out! Your doll is amazing. Have fun with her.

Hi again! Your Hitty looks great! You did a wonderful job painting her hair! I love the book too and thought I would never have a Hitty of my own, so I made one out of clay. She is the homeliest little thing, but she's mine! I made her a special wooden trunk to live in and I rarely take her out anymore. Since then, I have bought two carved Hitty dolls and painted them myself, and Hitty Constance, who was made & painted by other people. They are expensive little dolls, but also heirlooms. I look forward to hearing all about your adventures with your sweet Hitty.

Shelley, your little Hitty is darling! I love how you painted her black hair. I have the book, but not a Hitty doll. Congrats!

I saw your comment on Bama's blog, Dolls of an Era, and had to see what you have done for a Hitty. I, too, love the book. I think your version is just lovely. :) I also have the book. I was fortunate to find it at a library book sale. I do not have a Hitty doll -- not yet. ;)

I just found your blog. I have a Hitty my father made me over 10 years ago (he made one for each of my three sisters and me) and I treasure it. I also have a cloth Hitty that I received in a swap. I love my little girls and really need to get back to making her more clothes. I have collected fabrics and trims, just need to get busy!
